In celebration of World Oceans Day 2026, PENRO-LGU Sorsogon headed by Mr. Daniel Jazmin, III , through the Coastal Resource Management Section (CRMS), Gubat Nursery Team and Task Force Kalikasan, successfully conducted a mangrove planting and coastal clean-up activity today, June 8, 2026, in Barangay Bagacay, Gubat, Sorsogon.

A total of 200 mangrove seedlings were planted with the active participation and support of the Barangay Officials of Bagacay, headed by Punong Barangay Rommel Lacandula. The activity highlights the collective commitment of the local government and the community to coastal resource conservation and environmental protection.

Barangay Bagacay has been identified by the office as its pilot area for mangrove rehabilitation, where future mangrove planting initiatives and related conservation activities will be continuously implemented.

Together, let us protect our oceans and strengthen our coastal ecosystems for future generations.

💼 SPSWMB Holds 2nd Quarter Meeting for a Cleaner Sorsogon

On May 21, 2026, the Sorsogon Provincial Solid Waste Management Board (SPSWMB) convened virtually to discuss critical updates and eco-innovations for the province:

📋 EMB Updates: 11 Sorsogon LGUs now have approved 10-Year SWM Plans, while 5 are undergoing evaluation/revision.
🔬 WACS Training: Plans are in motion to secure funding for the upcoming July 2026 Waste Analysis and Characterization Study training in Sorsogon City.
⚡ Green Tech: The Board reviewed a Solid Waste Gasification Machine proposal from Jose Maria Int’l Industries Corp, offering a 24-ton daily waste-to-energy solution.

The Provincial Government of Sorsogon, thru PENRO-LGU, successfully facilitated the 2nd Quarter Meeting of the Sorsogon Provincial Integrated Coastal Management Council (SPICMC) on May 20, 2026 via Google Meet. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Daniel P. Jazmin III and attended by member agencies and partner stakeholders committed to the sustainable management and protection of Sorsogon’s coastal and natural resources.

During the meeting, PFO Francisco P. Dollisen of BFAR presented the topic on different species of crustaceans found in the marine, brackishwater, and freshwater ecosystems of Sorsogon, including discussions on allowable crab sizes for transport.

Mr. Freddie Dulpina of DENR-PENRO also presented updates regarding the Sustainable Forest Land Management Agreement (SFLMA).

The quarterly meeting served as an avenue for coordination, information sharing, and strengthening collaboration among agencies and stakeholders toward effective integrated coastal management and environmental conservation in the Province of Sorsogon.

Demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) joined forces with the LGU of Casiguran for a Joint Biodiversity Protection Checkpoint on April 28, 2026. This successful collaboration was initiated through a formal invitation from MENRO Ava Aisa De Castro-Reniva, fostering an "open line of coordination" between provincial and municipal offices to safeguard local ecosystems. Under the leadership of Mayor Maria Minez "EM" Hamor and in coordination with the PNP and Barangay Colambis, the team meticulously inspected over 30 vehicles to ensure strict adherence to Republic Act No. 9147, proving that united efforts are the key to preserving our natural heritage for future generations.
