Sogod Abaca Rehabilitation Project The SOGOD OPPORTUNITIES ABACA REHABILITATION (SOAR) PROJECT has funding from DA worth ONE HUNDRED MILLION PESOS.

The Municipality of Sogod is a recipient of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) commitment to rehabilitate the dying ABACA INDUSTRY in this part of Eastern Visayas. At present, the abaca rehab project has only received the first tranche which is Php 50 Million pesos. The SOAR project has 7 major components, namely:
Abaca Replanting
Communication, Advocacy and Governance
Fertilization of Existing

Abaca Plantations
Nursery Establishment
Post harvest Facilities and Equipment
Building Farmers’ and Community Capacity
GIS-Based Identification and Expansion of Abaca Farms
The SOAR project started in November 2016 and is expected to end in October 2019. Its major implementing agency is the Municipal Government of Sogod in Southern Leyte. It has cooperating agencies from the members of ABACA COALITION: PhilFIDA 8; National Abaca Research Center and Department of Development Communication of the Visayas State University in Visca, Baybay City, Leyte; Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center 8; and the Southern Leyte State University.
