San Fernando, Cebu – What started as a routine afternoon turned into a high-risk confrontation when personnel of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 (RMFB7) responded to a shooting incident on March 21, 2026, at Sitio Boloc-boloc, Barangay Sangat.
At around 4:00 P.M., RMFB7 operatives, led by PCPT Rodney A Bantolo under the supervision of PLTCOL Paterno Lagao Domondon Jr.,Force Commander immediately conducted a joint response with the San Fernando Municipal Police Station, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, Naga City Police Station, and Carcar City Police Station.
Prior to their arrival, the suspect had already shot and killed a local vendor engaged in lawful livelihood, prompting an urgent law enforcement response.
Upon reaching the area, operatives encountered the armed suspect barricaded inside a residence who opened fire at responding units. Despite the danger, RMFB7 personnel executed controlled tactical maneuvers to contain the threat, secure the area, and ensure the safety of nearby civilians.
During the exchange of gunfire, Patrolman Kim Villariaza sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite his injury, he refused to withdraw and continued assisting in securing the perimeter, showing exceptional courage and dedication to duty.
As the operation progressed, the suspect set his residence on fire and refused to surrender. The fire quickly engulfed the structure, leading authorities to believe that the suspect perished inside. Investigation and clearing operations are ongoing.
Patrolman Villariaza was immediately evacuated and brought to Carcar City District Hospital, and was later transferred to Chong Hua Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment and remains under observation..
