Today, my heart carries both pain and hope.
Three of the men implicated in the Pamplona Massacre have now been found guilty of the unlawful possession of fi****ms and explosives, and two of them will face reclusion perpetua the harshest penalty our judicial system can give.
For others, this may simply be another court decision. But for me, as Roelโs wife, it means so much more.
It has been more than three years since I lost my husband. I still carry the pain of that day. I still miss Roel, not just as a Governor who served our province, but as my husband, my partner, and the leader of our family. There are moments when the reality that he is gone still feels impossible to accept.
Roel was taken from us in an act of violence that also claimed the lives of many NegOrenses and left many more wounded, grieving, and traumatized.
No court decision can bring Roel back. No sentence can undo the suffering that our families have endured. But todayโs convictions are an important reminder that justice does not forget.
Every conviction is a step forward. Every person held accountable brings us closer to the truth and to the justice that Roel and every victim of the Pamplona Massacre deserve.
I am deeply grateful to our courts, prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and everyone who has continued to pursue this case despite the passage of time.
For Roel, for all the victims, and for all the families who continue to live with this loss, we will keep fighting.
We owe it to them to never forget.
We owe it to them to never stop seeking justice.
Today is a step toward that justice. And I pray that one day, we will finally see the full measure of accountability for what was done to Roel and to all the innocent lives taken that terrible day.
For Roel. For the victims. For our families.
We will never stop fighting for justice. ๐๏ธ๐ต๐ญ
