Barangay History:

From the vastness of the jungle of Mindanao, numerous land settlements had emerged after World War II. The post war land distribution to the landless people of Luzon and Visayas and to the war heroes HUK BALAHAP were gratui

tously granted by the late President Ramon Magsaysay in the 1950s. The person who was given the blanket authority to distribute lands in Cotabato Province through LASEDECO (Land Settlement Development Company) was General Paulino Santos, assisted by his overseer Pacifico Bugarin. Banga was the settlement district by the defunct National Land Settlement Administration (NLSA). It later become Banga municipality. In December 1952, Teresita is the 13th settlement of Banga and it was founded by the late Pacifico Bugarin. The first pioneering settlers who firmly decided to settle in this once wilderness of barangay Teresita came from western Visayas from the families of the following:

1. Gonzales 4. Valencia 7. Belencion 10. Hibaler
2. Banda 5. Berondo 8. Caligdong 11. Cordero
3. Palanog 6. Carugda 9. Dalen 12. Petorio

The elementary school site, barangay plaza, churches, chapel and the residential areas were planned by the council prior to its being subdivided. Barangay Teresita’s original area of coverage was 1,400 hectares more or less. As more waves of settlers from Panay and Luzon come to stay for good, barangay Ambalgan consisting of 414 hectares was created, the area intended were detached from barangay Teresita’s area jurisdiction. Furthermore, in 1980, the municipality of Sto. Niño was created and in 1981, barangay Sajaneba was also created and portion of barangay Teresita consisting of 161 hectares and 113 hectares from barangay 13, now known as Poblacion composed the newly created barangay. To date, barangay Teresita has 825 hectares to manage. In December 1952, barangay Teresita was created and Pacifico Muyco Gonzales Sr. being the team leader of the pioneering settlers was designated as the 1st Teniente del Barrio. Then after his term, four elected Teniente del Barrios succeeded one after the other namely:
1. Ramos 3. Buenavista
2. Llaban 4. Lagamon

The title Teniente del barrio was later renamed Barangay Captain, and the first Barangay Captain was Mateo Hibaler, followed by Porferio Ortigosa, Pacifico D. Gonzales Jr., then another term for Porferio Ortigosa, Acting Barangay Captain Nicolas Cercado Sr. who succeeded the then late Porferio Ortigosa and Ricaredo Labatos. The list continues with Acting Barangay Captain Wilfredo Dimzon who succeeded the late Ricaredo Labatos, the title being renamed Punong Barangay which was later succeeded on 29 October 2007 by Pacifico D. Gonzales Jr. In the last election Punong Barangay Wilfredo Dimzon won and will serve the constituents until October 2013. Barangay Teresita is a progressive barangay with its highly literate and professional inhabitants composing of private and government employees, businessmen and overseas workers. The 525 households or 2,600 residents bestow mutual respect to one another and they work and cooperate for the common welfare of the barangay. The new set of elected barangay council members’ vision is to make Barangay Teresita as a model barangay in terms of socio-economic prosperity, peace and order, political stability and maturity, and housing more skilled workers and career inclined individuals and above all things, God fearing constituents of this barangay.
