It is located about eight (8) kilometers north of Vigan City. It is consisted of thirty-six (36) barangays, seven (7) urban barangays and twenty-nine (29) rural barangays. It is bounded by Magsingal on the north, by San Ildefonso and Bantay on the south and the majestic Bullagao Mountain on the east in beyond lies the Province of Abra and on the west, by South China Sea. lly agricultural, in which 80% of the Constituents engage in agriculture. 2847 hectares are used for agricultural purposes. The major crops produced are: rice, corn, sugarcane, to***co, and various vegetables. Major sources of irrigation are from rainfall and groundwater through the shallow and deep wells. Live springs can be found on the northeastern part of Barangays Lagatit, Laoingen and Nagbettedan, which is their main source of potable water and irrigation. The St Dominic Parish Church, People's Coliseum, Municipal Plaza, Municipal Hall, and the Public Market are all situated in the Metro Poblacion Area. A total of one (1) Private Hospital and Seven (7) clinics are also situated in the said Area. Wholesale and retail trade is concentraded in the urban area. At present there are two (2) gasoline refilling stations, fifty-four market tiendas, one (1) fish market shade section, one (1) meat market shade section, one (1) vegetable market shade section, 8 bakeshops, (6) Computer Cafes, hundreds of sari-sari stores scattered to all the barangays, 3 commercial poultry farms, 8 meta crafts industries, 4 construction firms, 3 lumber and Hardware Suppliers and 37 registered Multi-purpose Cooperatives. There are two (2) Public High Schools, one (1) private High School, twenty three (23) Public Elementary Schools and thirty-six Day Care Centers scattered in the Municipality. The Municipality has a total length of 73.869km road networks which are being maintained by the Local Government Unit (LGU) with the help of the National as well as the Provincial Government. It has a total number of eight (8) bridges. At present 100% of the total barangay is supplied with electricity by the Ilocos Sur Electric Cooperative (ISECO). Main transport system of the municipality is consist of cars, jeepneys, mini-buses, tricycles, and motorcycles.
