The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Santa Marcela held its 2nd Quarter Municipal Solid Waste Management Board Meeting on June 3, 2026, at the EKB Clubhouse, Municipal Grounds. The meeting was presided over by Municipal Mayor Evelyn B. Martinez.

The following agenda items were presented and discussed:

1. Memorandum of Agreement Signing

The MENRO presented the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Santa Marcela, Apayao, and the Barangay Local Government Units (BLGUs) regarding the implementation of projects funded through the prizes awarded under the TARNAW Award Program of the municipality.

2. Establishment of Waste Collection Points

The proposed design of the waste collection points to be established by the barangays was presented in preparation for the implementation of the municipal solid waste collection system.

3. Presentation of the Proposed Executive Order Creating the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Management Council

The proposed Executive Order creating the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Management Council was presented to the board. The council will help coordinate environmental programs and activities and support the sustainable management of the municipality's natural resources.

4. Other Matters

Mr. Terence Aguinaldo announced the upcoming Kite Flying Activity, encouraging participants to use designs and colors inspired by the Philippine Flag. Updates on the Walkathon were also presented, with a registration fee of ₱350 for participants aged 19 years old and above.

Mr. James B. Tacas of DENR-CENRO Calanasan announced for the donation of bamboo seedlings for planting along one side of the bike trails, while indigenous plants will be planted on the other side.

Ms. Menchie L. Gamiao discussed the continuous monitoring of Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in the barangays. In addition, owners of gasoline stations and other establishments were encouraged to visit the Municipal Environment Office for assistance in processing their permit requirements.

The meeting was attended by James B. Tacas of DENR-CENRO Calanasan; Kia Bautista of DENR-FPO; Menchie L. Gamiao of EMB-PEMU Apayao; department heads; representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP); Punong Barangays and their representatives; and other members of the Municipal Solid Waste Management Board.

A significant step towards a healthier and hypertension-free Santa Marcela!

The Local Government Unit of Santa Marcela, through the Municipal Health Office, in partnership with the Provincial Health Office and Santa Marcela District Hospital through Healthy Caravan, Department of Health, and other stakeholders, successfully launched the Proteksyon Para sa Altapresyon Program (PPSA).

The activity aimed to raise awareness on hypertension, promote healthy lifestyle practices, and strengthen community participation in the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.

The event featured the official launching program, inspiring messages from local and provincial leaders, a community PPSA dance, a pledge of commitment from stakeholders, and a ceremonial blood pressure taking to emphasize the importance of regular BP monitoring.

Health services were also provided to the community, including:

✅ Provision of Medicines
✅ NCD Risk Assessment
✅ YAKAP Registration

𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 |The Local Government Unit of Santa Marcela hereby announces the conduct of the Sports Clinic 2026 Mini Tournament, which will be held on June 1–4, 2026 at the EKB Memorial Sports Center (Municipal Gym).

This tournament serves as the culminating activity of the Sports Clinic 2026 and aims to provide participants with an opportunity to demonstrate the skills, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship they have developed throughout the program. Young athletes from the Basketball 8–11 Years Old and 12–15 Years Old Divisions, as well as the Volleyball Girls Division, will compete in a round-robin tournament leading to the Championship Day.

On the Championship Day, participants from the Taekwondo and Arnis programs will also showcase their skills, techniques, and discipline through special presentations.

We invite everyone to support and cheer for our young athletes as they demonstrate the values they learned throughout the Sports Clinic.

Good luck to all teams! May the best teams win, and may every participant enjoy the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
