Landy National High School - DepEd Marinduque

Landy National High School - DepEd Marinduque Landy NHS is an autonomous leading public secondary school in the Province of Marinduque Vicente Monteloyola was the Barangay Captain while Mr. Mrs. Sofia P. Mr. m.

How nice and pleasing to the one's ear to go back and have a reminiscence of the past once upon a time Landy National High School past painstaking historical installation just only to answer the tremendous educational needs of the barangay youth. With the advent of time it gradually rose to what is now Landy National High School. Way back in the school year 1966-1967 there was a massive desire amo

ng the people of Barangay Landy headed by the civic-minded leaders and professionals to open a Barrio High School. Its main objective was to provide a secondary education to those students belonging to the low-income family group particularly those who couldn't pay high tuition fees in the private school. Those people who worked hard to open the high school were the Monteloyola Brothers.Mr. Mauro Monteloyola, BSIE graduate was the Barangay Secretary of the Barrio Council. Rogelio was then the District Supervisor and Mr. Alfredo P. Monterey was the principal of Santa Cruz, North Central School. Vicente Monteloyola who had been one of those with great intentions to push through the opening of the High School, made rounds and sacrificed by ascending mountains in the nearby barrios like Bangcuangan campaigning students to enroll. Until a total of 84 students for two year levels, first year and second year, were gathered, through the joint effort of the barangay officials, municipal officials and school administrators, the opening of the Barrio High School of Landy was approved by the Superintendent and was started in June, 1966. The newly opened Landy Barrio High School served as an inspiration to the first 84 population which was a mixture of different ages. Some stopped schooling for a lot of years after their elementary education while the others were transferred from Sta. Cruz Institute and Malindig Institute, the two reigning private high school in the Poblacion. During the primitive years of its operation, it was in its trying hard situation. Complexities and problems aroused which were but natural at the start. Those didn't entail and determined youth and administrators to surrender the operation but instead accepted the challenge. The municipal government was there to support. They didn't leave it to cold because Mayor Francisco M. Lecaroz allowed the release of six thousand pesos (P 6000.00) honorarium slashed from the school board fund to augment the thirty pesos (P30.00) tuition fee coming from the students. Teachers received a monthly salary of P212.00 without vacation salaries. Everybody had a deep concern and was ready to pull the chestnuts out of the fire with the hope that the end would be justified by its means.๐Ÿ“ทMr. Isidro Zulueta who was the Barangay Treasurer was so patient enough in collecting the P30.00 tuition fee from the students to support the financial needs of the school. Elementary school rooms were occupied by the high school temporarily. Classes were held under the mango tree where the students sat on benches. Nobody dare to complain but instead brought up their aggression of being faithfull and serious to complete the secondary course. Their longing to learn was their priority. The first teachers who handled the classes were mostly part-timers from the elementary school. They were Mr. Beato R. Revilla, Mrs. Consuelo R. Perlada, Mr. David Rivamonte, Araceli Almonte, now Dr. Araceli A. Penaflor, Ms Araceli Lancion, Mrs Clarita Quindoza, and Mr. Leopoldo Aguirre. The full timers were Mrs. Cesaria G. Zoleta, Mr. Mauro Monteloyola and Mr. Dominador Monterozo. As years passed by the part-timers were replaced by Ms. Alicia Dela Cruz, now Dr. Alicia C. Amador, Mrs Victoria N. Buhay, Ms. Estelita Penaflor now Mrs. Estelita P. Rodelas, Ms. Meldina Ricamara now Mrs. Meldina R. Regio, Ms. Estrella Pedernal, now Mrs. Estrella P. Rivares, and Mr. Edgardo C. Penaflor. In March 1970 the first graduation was held with 25 gradutes. In 1972 teachers added were Ms. Lucina Rey, now Mrs. Lucina R. Ricamara, Ms. Florita R. Puertollano now Mrs. Florita P. Rodil. In 1974 all Barrio High School were converted to Barangay High School during the term of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos under the New Society (Bagong Lipunan). Some changes and improvements took place this time. Books and other school equipment like arm chairs were provided. Students continued to increase in number. Situations had to be remedied, for it would not work to be adopted by the Elementary School for years ever. Good, Mrs. Victoria N. Buhay was appointed head teacher in 1978. Under her with the PTA support, government officials most especially the former Congresswoman, Gov. Carmencita O. Reyes open heartedly supported Landy National High School to purchase a lot with the help of Mrs. Zoleta. Mauro Monteloyola the PTA President at that time tried his best to seek fund for lot purchase. Luckily, Congresswoman Reyes gave an amount of P30, 000.00 to buy a lot somewhere in Aturan which Mr. Catalino Alva wished to have in exchange to the present lot occupied by Landy National High School. When the deeds of sale was finished, Mr. Catalino Alva refused to accept the lot purchased at Aturan. The remaining balance in the trust fund of Landy National High School amounting to P 41, 000.00 became the instrument in the purchase of 11, 800 sq. purchased from Mr. Catalino Alva. Civic-minded minded people who did their part in order to buy the lot from Mr. Catalino Alva were Mrs. Felicisima de Galicia (deceased), Mrs. Buhay,Mr. Vicente Monteloyola. They spent one night sleep in Cabuyo, Torrijos to convince the lot owner to sell the lot. Their effort gained a good result. The purchase was made possible. Kagawad Erlando Nunez was the Barangay Captain that year. More dedicated people who helped putting up Landy National High School were Mr. Celso S. Arevalo, the former District Supervisor of the North District, Mr. Revilla who contributed in bulldozing the High School lot and of course, the Marcopper Mining Corporation that leveled the lot through the contact of Ex-Mayor Percival Morales. Ex-Mayor Wilfredo R. Red granted the request of the school administrator of Landy National High School to polish the leveling of school ground and its approach to its beautification and cleanliness purposes. In 1994 Landy National High School was nationalized under the administration of Ex-President Corazon C. Aquino. Hence it bears the present name, Landy National High School. Public high schools in the provinces began to lift up likewise Landy National High School. A P3,000,000.00 SEDP building and a 1.5 M ADB building were constructed for Landy National High School. The SEDP building was equipped with laboratory and Home Economics equipment and utensils. Books and projectors were provided. All these things are now enjoyed by the students who after long years of sacrifice reaped what had been sown. Buhay was promoted principal in 1985 a thing that made Landy National High School to be affirmed in its stand. A motherly principal who did her best for the success of the school. It was in the same year when Landy National High School had the highest number of enrollees with the total of 623. It only decreased in the following years due to the opening of Kilo-Kilo National High School. In January, 1993, the newly constructed building in the lot of its own were occupied by 500 students. It was the time when they separated from the roof of the elementary School buildings. After the retirement of Mrs. Buhay in 1996 another energetic principal from Dolores National High School came in. He is Mr. Avelino Penaranda, a man of action and an innovative principal. He always wants changes and updates both in the physical and academic. He has already put up more improvements in this school. Everybody is attracted and captivated by the fast improvements Landy National High School. The administration and staff of Landy National High School extend special thanks to the founder of barrio high school, Pedro Orata, for without him no National High School might have existed in the Barangays. The students award are hard to be counted. Teachers are all qualified, board passers who always attend seminars and training to update skills in imparting knowledge to their students. For you LANDY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL, you have passed the test of time. You have proven it through the numerous graduates now enjoying their forseen bright future. Hail! Glory! For GOD never fails you. May you stand forever. Prepared by: Mrs. Lucina Ricamara
