On June 4, 2026, the Ceremonial Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing for the Establishment of Coconut Seedfarm under Coconut Hybridization Program (CHP) between the Philippine Coconut Authority Region VI and West Visayas State University was held at the WVSU Main Campus in La Paz, Iloilo City, marking a significant step toward strengthening collaboration in coconut development and research.

The MOA was signed by Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz, President of WVSU, and Dr. Neil J. Melencion, Regional Manager III of PCA Region VI, together with Dr. Jose Ariel A. Tutor, Campus Administrator of WVSU-CAF, and Joel P. Solis, Division Chief I of PCA Iloilo.

Following the signing ceremony, a Ceremonial Coconut Planting Activity was conducted at the proposed seed farm site in Jayobo, Lambunao. The activity brought together PCA personnel, WVSU faculty and staff, and CoScho scholars in support of the establishment of the seed farm under the Coconut Hybridization Program.

As a symbolic start to this collaborative endeavor, participants planted 20 coconut seedlings, signifying the kickoff of the seed farm establishment and a shared commitment to advancing coconut research, education, and the sustainable growth of the coconut industry in Western Visayas.

When agencies unite with a shared purpose, meaningful change becomes possible.

On May 14, 2026, partner government agencies and key stakeholders gathered in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental for the Regional Inter-Agency Technical Committee (RIATC) Meeting to assess progress, address challenges, and strengthen collaboration in implementing the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP).

The meeting was led by PCA Region VI Regional Manager III Dr. Neil J. Melencion, together with PCA Region VII Regional Manager III Mrs. Aurora L. Paquibot, Division Chief of Negros Occidental Engr. Jean Alisna, Division Chief of Iloilo Mr. Joel P. Solis, Acting Project Development Officer IV Mr. Dionelo J. Ongga, CFIDP partner agencies, and PCA personnel.

The gathering served as an important venue to review accomplishments, align strategies, plans, and reinforce inter-agency convergence to ensure that programs and services are delivered more effectively to coconut farmers across Region 6 and NIR.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Local Government Unit of Hinoba-an, led by Hon. Mayor Daph V. Reliquias, RN, for their warm hospitality, generous accommodation, and invaluable support, which greatly contributed to the fruitful discussions and overall success of the meeting.

Through stronger partnerships, shared commitment, and collective action, we move closer to achieving the vision of a more resilient, productive, and prosperous coconut industry for every Filipino coconut farmer.
