Oil shortages and rising fuel prices can affect more than just transportation; they can also lead to higher food prices, increased transport costs, and rising electricity bills. Being prepared helps households and communities reduce the impact of these challenges.

Simple actions like using fuel wisely, maintaining vehicles properly, reducing energy consumption at home, and planning purchases can make a big difference in saving resources and money.

Preparation is also important for our farmers. Improving irrigation efficiency through water-saving methods, regular pump maintenance, and exploring alternative irrigation systems can help reduce fuel use while protecting crop production. By practicing smart energy use and responsible consumption, we can all help build more resilient and sustainable communities.

On February 4โ€“5, 2026, a Training on Organic Poultry Production was successfully conducted in barangays Agsimao, Lapat-Balantay, and Linec in the Municipality of Tineg, Abra. The activity forms part of the commitments stipulated in the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and the Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) of Tineg, serving as a direct benefit to residents in the affected areas of the Ilocos Norteโ€“Ilocos Surโ€“Abra Irrigation Project.

The training aimed to provide participants with technical knowledge and practical skills in sustainable and chemical-free poultry production as an alternative and supplemental livelihood opportunity. The sessions covered essential components of organic poultry raising, including proper housing management system, breeding and selection of native chicken, natural feeding systems, herbal-based health management, and environmentally sound farm practices. Beyond technical capacity-building, the initiative underscores NIAโ€™s continuing commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that infrastructure projects translate into meaningful, community-based economic opportunities. Through strengthened partnership and knowledge transfer, the activity promotes food security, responsible farming, and long-term socio-economic resilience for the residents of the mentioned barangays.

The National Irrigation Administration โ€“ Ilocos Norteโ€“Ilocos Surโ€“Abra Irrigation Project (NIA-INISAIP) successfully conducted the DOLE-recognized Loss Control Management Course to reinforce workplace safety and organizational sustainability. The training emphasized that, beyond preventing injuries, workplace incidents incur high direct and indirect costs, including lost productivity, legal liabilities, operational disruptions, and reputational damage, which can undermine long-term financial stability.

The participants enhanced their competencies in hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, and implementation of preventive and corrective measures through practical and theory-based learning.

This training is especially vital as NIA-INISAIP approaches the much-anticipated implementation of the project, where field operations demand stricter safety compliance and proactive risk management.
