NYC TO THE YOUTH: CARRY THE TORCH OF THE NEW SK
It's time to check our ranks and choose the best candidates who personify the valuable traits of a new breed of Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) leaders.
"As we celebrate our victory in advocating for the non-postponement of this year's synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), let us maximize time to encourage other young people who are passionate, dedicated and committed to the service of the youth sector to be part of the reformed SK," NYC Commissioner James Ceasar Ventura said.
The bill passed by the House of Reprsentatives seeking to postpone BSKE 2018 was transmitted to the Senate but was not tackled before both Houses of Congress went into a recess starting Thursday. They are expected to resume session by May 14.
"We have won the fight. It is up to us now to convince our legislators that the SK is a formidable institution for youth leadership and good governance. Let us vote for the best, and advocate for an informed choice among the youth voters," Ventura concluded.
Under COMELEC Resolution No. 10246, the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) commences on April 14 and ends on April 20, giving those interested to run in the upcoming elections seven days to submit their COC.
To be eligible to run, one must be a resident of the barangay for not less than one (1) year immediately preceding the day of the elections, at least eighteen (18) years but not more than twenty-four (24) years of age on the day of the elections, able to read and write Filipino, English, or the local dialect, must not be related within the second civil degree of consanguinity or affinity to any incumbent elected national official or to any incumbent elected regional, provincial, city, municipal, or barangay official, in the locality where he or she seeks to be elected, and must not have been convicted by final judgment of any crime involving moral turpitude.
