LOOK | The City Government of Davao received 580 wheelchairs donated by the People’s Republic of China through the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Davao City during a turnover ceremony held at Rizal Park today, May 20, 2026.

The wheelchairs will be distributed to Dabawenyo persons with disabilities (PWDs) through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO).

Present during the turnover ceremony were Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, Consul General Zhao Xiuzhen, officials from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China, city councilors, city department heads, and beneficiaries.

While protecting livelihoods is important, enforcement of existing regulations is necessary to ensure fairness and order. Vendors who comply with the rules are equally entitled to protection.

The local government, in coordination with the Davao City Police Office, is investigating the April 29, 2026 incident at Bankerohan Public Market. Appropriate action will be taken based on verified facts.

Road-clearing operations will continue to uphold public order and ensure equitable conditions for all. #

Samtang importante ang pagpanalipod sa panginabuhian, gikinahanglan ang pagpatuman sa mga regulasyon aron masiguro nga patas ug hapsay ang tanan. Ang mga vendor nga nagatuman sa balaod adunay katungod usab nga maprotektahan.

𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐈𝐏 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞

The City Government of Davao created the Davao city Indigenous People’s Affairs Office (DC-IPAO) as a unit under the City Mayor’s Office, through Executive Order No. 14.

Davao City is a multicultural city of diverse inhabitants, including its 11 ethnolinguistic groups. In a bid to promote equality and unity, the DC-IPAO was created to cater to the needs of these ethnolinguistic groups in the city.

Led by the 11 Deputy Mayors, the new office will serve as the primary pipeline in the implementation of executive instruction, programs, and projects of the city designed to promote the welfare, growth, and development of the Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) in the city.

The DC-IPAO shall also lead in preserving and developing the culture, tradition, institutions, and well-being of the 11 ethnolinguistic groups in Davao City.

Additionally, the office will serve as a medium through which ICCs/IPs can seek linkages with local and national offices for IP affairs, and as a nerve center for information for the IP groups.

The office is also mandated to participate in the peace process involving conflicts between ICCs/IPs or individuals in Davao City and the government, in cooperation with the appropriate agencies and institutions.

𝐏𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐍𝐒𝐕 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬

The City Health Office, through its Population Division, catered to a total of 173 No-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) acceptors from January to April this year. This is nearly half of its 2025 record of 279 acceptors.

Justice Mindanao Rasgo, Population Division’s NSV Coordinator, expressed that the office is confident that they will be able to surpass last year’s accomplishment.

“Wala pa ‘ta katunga sa tuig, basin maapsan nato ang atoang accomplishment last year o malabwan pa nato this year (We’re not even halfway through the year, so we might catch up with our accomplishment last year or even surpass this),” he said.

Davao City has been offering free NSV through the City Health Office since 2008. To date, the office has recorded a total of 1,466 acceptors.

Every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, the Population Division holds a free NSV session at the Teen Center on Pelayo Street, beside the Barangay Hall of Barangay 4‑A.

“Ang amoang ginatarget na maximum number of clients per schedule is naa sa 35 para mahatag namo ang katong sakto nga atensyon ug kalidad nga serbisyo. Isa pud sa amoang ginabasehan diraa kang ang supply namo sa mga gamit (Our target maximum number of clients per schedule is 35 so that we can provide the right attention and quality service. Our supply of equipment also determines the number),” Rasgo said.

NSV is one of the permanent family planning methods that the City Population Division offers. It has a 99.9 percent effectiveness rate and involves a non‑invasive surgical procedure that takes only 10–15 minutes, requiring minimal aftercare.

Rasgo also clarified that vasectomy is not castration. Unlike castration, where the te**es are removed, vasectomy (both traditional and NSV) targets the vas deferens – the tube through which s***m passes – while leaving the te**es intact.

Because this is a permanent method, Dabawenyos who no longer wish to have more children or have no intention of having children are encouraged to visit the Population Division office at the Teen Center for proper information and counseling.

“Protocol g’yud no sa program sa no-scalpel vasectomy ang counseling before magpadayon sa surgery ang pasyente para mabal-an nato kung segurado na ba g’yud siya kay basin muabot ang panahon nga magmahay siya sa iyahang dawaton na NSV (Counseling is a protocol in the No‑Scalpel Vasectomy program – it’s done before the surgery so we know the patient is truly sure. We want to prevent future regrets),” Rasgo explained.
