The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) La Union, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Bauang, La Union, conducted a Consumer Advocacy Seminar and distributed information materials on the 8 Consumer Rights at Barangay Central West, Bauang, La Union on March 21, 2026. This activity forms part of the Bantay at Bayanihan sa Merkado (BBM) -Panangsalaknib ti Lumalako iti Umno a Serbisyo (PLUS) Project, an initiative of DTI La Union.
The seminar was attended by sixty-three (63) constituents and barangay officials of Barangay Central West, reflecting strong community participation and support for consumer education initiatives.
The BBM-PLUS Consumer Advocacy Seminar aims to enhance the awareness and understanding of consumers at the barangay level regarding their rights and responsibilities, as well as the various Fair Trade Laws (FTLs) implemented by DTI.

On March 10–11, 2026, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – La Union, through its Negosyo Centers and Consumer Protection Division, conducted a series of price monitoring activities across various municipalities in the province. The operation aimed to ensure that Basic Necessities and Prime Commodities (BNPCs), including rice, are sold within the established Suggested Retail Prices (SRP).
Considering the recent increase in petroleum prices due to ongoing global conflicts, the DTI La Union intensified its monitoring efforts to assess and mitigate potential impacts on the prices of essential goods. These initiatives form part of the agency’s continuing commitment to promote price stability and protect consumer welfare.
Through these efforts, the DTI seeks to prevent profiteering, ensure the availability of essential commodities, and safeguard the purchasing power of consumers across La Union.

Price monitoring was conducted in major supermarkets and grocery stores in San Fernando.
This regular monitoring aims to promote fair pricing, transparency, and consumer protection across the market.

In light of recent situation in the Middle East and their potential impact on global markets, the Department of Trade and Industry Region 1 (DTI R1) assures the public that the prices of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs) within the Ilocos Region remain stable. Recent monitoring shows sufficient inventory at major retailers, with compliance to Suggested Retail Prices (SRPs) ensuring affordability.
DTI Region I advises against panic buying, as supply chains are fully operational. Regional Director Merlie D. Membrere highlights the importance of vigilance and coordination in maintaining consumer confidence. “Our continuous price and supply monitoring, coupled with close coordination with retailers and local government units, ensures that basic goods remain available and fairly priced for the public,” RD Membrere said.
DTI Region I continues to monitor markets and work with stakeholders to ensure fair practices and availability of essentials. Consumers should report any unfair trade practices to the nearest DTI office. The department is committed to a fair and stable marketplace in the Ilocos Region. 🇵🇭
