Site monitoring was conducted at Tibiao River in Barangay Martinez, Tibiao, Antique to assess the existing flow and overall condition of the river, particularly the portion proposed for realignment by the Punong Barangay, Hon. Lorenzo Amarillo, Jr.

The proposed realignment involves the extraction of sand and gravel from the river channel to improve and redirect the flow of water and address concerns regarding potential flow obstruction and flooding in the area.

The findings from the site monitoring will serve as a basis for determining the appropriate technical and regulatory measures and ensuring that necessary requirements are complied with prior to the implementation of any sand and gravel extraction or river realignment activities.

In line with the Province of Antique’s continuing commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, a Tree-Growing Activity was successfully conducted in Pandanan, Laua-an, Antique, at the 10-hectare Communal Tree Plantation Establishment Project site. This initiative forms part of the Annual Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (AEPEP) implemented by CSAG/ISAG permit holders, which aims to strengthen reforestation efforts and promote long-term ecological sustainability in the province.

The activity was led by the FMS Division and held in Brgy. Pandanan, Laua-an, Antique, at the 10-hectare Communal Tree Plantation Area. It was actively participated in by various stakeholders, including Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries, Barangay Tanods, Lupon, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Laua-an, and barangay officials. Support and coordination were also extended by partner groups from Quarry Enforcers (Barbaza, Laua-an, Bugasong), and the MGS Division.

A total of 600 seedlings were planted during the activity, consisting of 300 Narra, 200 Langka, and 100 Lanzones. The event also strengthened collaboration among local stakeholders, government offices, and partner groups, while contributing to ongoing environmental rehabilitation and reforestation efforts in the Province of Antique.

Overall, the activity highlighted strong multi-sectoral cooperation in advancing environmental sustainability. Through the collective efforts of all participating stakeholders, the initiative significantly contributed to reforestation goals and the promotion of a greener, healthier, and more resilient Province of Antique.

𝙂𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙪𝙥 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙞𝙢𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙚𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙃𝙤𝙧𝙣𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩 🤗

The Office of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (OPENRO) through the Protected Areas and Wildlife Services (PAWS) Division conducted a coordination meeting with participating Local Government Units (LGUs) and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) in preparation for the upcoming Simultaneous Hornbill Count, scheduled on August 20–21, 2026.

The meeting focused on strengthening coordination among participating organizations and ensuring the smooth implementation of the two-day activity. Key matters discussed included the identification of monitoring sites, deployment of participants, field monitoring procedures, documentation, data gathering, and other logistical and operational requirements.

The activity aims to generate updated information on hornbill populations while strengthening collaboration among government agencies, LGUs, NGOs, and other stakeholders in the conservation and protection of these important wildlife species.

OPENRO expresses its appreciation to all participating LGUs, NGOs, and partner organizations for their continued support and commitment to wildlife conservation. Through collective efforts, the province continues to strengthen initiatives toward the protection of hornbills and their habitats. 🐦🌿

Together, let us count, conserve, and protect our hornbills for future generations. 💚

In partnership with MENRO Sebaste, TRANSCEND, and Conservation International, the Office of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer conducted an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign in Brgy. Nauhon, Sebaste, Antique last August 13, 2026.

As part of the celebration of Dulungan Month 2026, For. Sunny Boy D. Sargente, representative from CENRO-Culasi, talked about Biodiversity Conservation in Antique. Meanwhile, the OPENRO staff under the EMS/PAWS Division, Ms. Leonalyn Abong discussed the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (RA 9003) and Mr. Louie Jay Bantolo with Planning Staff Mariemel Delos Santos also talked about the importance of Dulungan Hornbill, Antique's provincial bird.

A total of 102 individuals attended the activity, including the Brgy. Council members of Brgy. Nauhon and students from Nauhon Elementary School.
