The Office of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (OPENRO) Antique, through its Forest Management Services Division, conducted a Community Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Campaign in Barangay Bakiang, Valderrama, Antique, on May 26, 2026. The initiative was held to educate Integrated Social Forestry (ISF) upland farmer-beneficiaries, with a focus on strengthening local environmental awareness and promoting sustainable upland management practices.
In line with the campaign, a three-day tree-growing activity was implemented from May 26 to May 28, 2026. This collaborative environmental effort was carried out in partnership with MENRO Valderrama, led by EnP. Federico D. Rivero III; the Integral Ecology Ministry of the Diocese of San Jose de Antique, led by Rev. Fr. Frederick βDodoyβ T. Rubido; OJTs from the University of AntiqueβSibalom Campus; and the local officials and residents of Brgy. Bakiang, headed by Barangay Captain Gina S. Culibao.
Operating across remote areas of the barangay during the three-day activity, the team concentrated its restoration efforts on key environmental sites. The field operations successfully protected local water resources through watershed conservation, established a communal food forest at Sitio Igtara, and advanced sustainable agroforestry farm development at Sitio Ulo Kalublub.
The collective initiative achieved a total output of 5,200 planted fruit and forest tree seedlings. This accomplishment directly supports the long-term sustainable management, protection, and rehabilitation of public forest lands within the Municipality of Valderrama.
OPENRO Antique extends its gratitude to all institutional partners, volunteers, and community stakeholders for their vital contributions to this environmental mission.
