MODERN ANTIQUE AIRPORT TAKES FLIGHT UNDER LEGARDA'S VISIONARY LEADERSHIP
A historic milestone is on the horizon for the province of Antique as the construction of its modern airport terminal nears completion. With an initial budget of ₱1.7 billion, this state-of-the-art facility is set to become operational by mid-July 2025.
Senator Loren Legarda, a staunch advocate for infrastructure development and inclusive progress in Antique, recently conducted an ocular inspection of the terminal alongside Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon.
During the visit, Secretary Dizon commended Senator Legarda’s unwavering vision, dedication, and persistence in championing the modernization of the Antique Airport. He emphasized that the project would not have been possible without her relentless efforts and commitment to the province’s development. Secretary Dizon also announced that additional funding is already in the pipeline for 2025 and 2026 to further enhance the airport and its surrounding infrastructure.
Senator Legarda, a long-time proponent of sustainable and inclusive growth for her home province, initiated the airport’s improvement during her tenure as a legislator. Recognizing the critical role of accessible air travel in driving economic development and tourism, her vision is now being carried forward by her brother, Congressman AA Legarda, the Lone District Representative of Antique who through his oversight functions over the executive branch continuously monitored its construction stages. Congressman AA Legarda has been instrumental in securing resources for the airport’s completion and complementary infrastructure projects.
The modernization plan includes extending the runway to 1.8 kilometers, enabling the use of jet planes and significantly improving air travel. This development is expected to enhance travel convenience for both locals and tourists. Additionally, efforts are underway to upgrade port infrastructure, particularly at San Jose Port and Lipata Port in Culasi, further boosting accessibility and connectivity across the province.
The new Antique Airport is poised to unlock economic opportunities, boost tourism, and greatly improve mobility for Antiqueños and visitors alike—bringing the province closer to a more connected, progressive, and brighter future.
