HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FORESTS!
The Philippines, through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Forest Management Bureau, joins the international community in celebrating the International Day of Forests (IDF) every March 21.
The International Day of Forests is a global observance held annually to raise awareness of the importance of forests to people and their vital role in poverty eradication, environmental sustainability, and food security. Sustainable management of all types of forests is at the heart of addressing challenges in conflict-affected, developing, and developed countries, for the benefit of present and future generations.
For this year, the theme of the celebration of the International Day of Forests is “Forests and Innovation”. The key messages for this year’s theme are as follows:
1. Innovation and technology have transformed countries’ ability to monitor and report on their forests.
2. New technological innovations are needed to halt deforestation and forest degradation.
3. Technological innovations can empower Indigenous Peoples through mapping and securing customary land.
4. Innovation is advancing ecosystem restoration as a powerful nature-based solution to multiple global challenges.
5. Research and science are pushing the boundaries of what we can do with wood and other forest products.
