PAMANA Year-End Assessment
Nov. 8, 2019 - Iloilo City
ILOILO CITY, (08 November 2019) — Local government units in Regions VI, VII, and VIII are optimistic that PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn (PAMANA) projects will help transform the lives of former combatants of the Rebolusyonaryong Partido Manggagawa-Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army/Alex Boncayao Brigade-Tabara Paduano Group, also known as KAPATIRAN.
“[Through PAMANA], for sure ‘yong production nila, livelihood, at ways of living nila [KAPATIRAN] ay mai-improve. At sana ‘yong iba pang takot humarap sa uniformed men at government ay may ma-establish din na ‘yong tiwala,” said Raul Morales Jr., PAMANA project facilitator in San Carlos, Negros Occidental, during the year-end PAMANA assessment held in this city today.
On September 19, 2019, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte witnessed the decommissioning of 727 KAPATIRAN members, along with 317 llong and short fi****ms, 219 explosives, and 13,284 pieces of ammunition in Jamindan, Capiz.
Recently, 266 decommissioned combatants graduated from a 45-day basic military training which qualifies them as members of the Community Defense Unit. The course aimed to capacitate the trainees as peacekeepers in their respective communities in Negros and Panay Islands.
Under the oversight of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, PAMANA is a national government program that provides much-needed development assistance to remote, conflict affected communities across the country. # # #
