BS Agribusiness (BSAB) students of Samal Island City College (SICC) marked another milestone for the institution after securing Third Place in the 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 (𝐘𝐅𝐂) 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐲, held on November 13, 2025, at the AMAD Conference Room, Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office XI, Tugbok District, Davao City.

The SICC delegation, represented by 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐚 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐧𝐨, 𝐊𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐬, and 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐫, competed alongside student teams from three other agricultural schools in the region, showcasing their agripreneurial proposals and innovative solutions in support of sustainable agricultural development. Despite tough competition, the BSAB students delivered a strong and commendable performance, earning them a spot in the top three.

The Young Farmers Challenge is an annual initiative of the Department of Agriculture, designed to encourage young Filipinos to develop viable, innovative, and community-responsive agribusiness ventures. Participation in the competition provided the SICC team with an important platform to apply their classroom knowledge, strengthen their entrepreneurial mindset, and engage with experts in the agricultural sector.

Faculty mentor, 𝐌𝐫. 𝐄𝐥𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐌. 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚, 𝐌𝐒𝐀𝐧𝐬, and BSAB Program Head, 𝐌𝐬. 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐲𝐧 𝐒. 𝐆𝐮𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐚, 𝐌𝐁𝐀, expressed pride in the students’ achievement, noting the dedication and teamwork they demonstrated throughout their preparations. The accomplishment also adds to the growing record of performances that highlight the BSAB Program’s developing presence within the regional agribusiness landscape.

SICC congratulates the BSAB student delegates for their hard-earned win and extends its appreciation to the faculty members who supported them. Their success serves as an inspiration to the SICC community as the college continues to champion student excellence and innovation in the field of agriculture.//HJO

The Samal Island City College (SICC), through its Bachelor of Science in AgriBusiness (BSAB) Program, conducted a Livelihood and Sustainability Lecture Series at the Barangay Hall of Cawag, Island Garden City of Samal, on November 11, 2025.

The activity aimed to promote environmentally sustainable livelihood practices and strengthen community engagement.

The head of SICC Community Extension Services, Ms. Annie C. Macarambon, MPA, delivered the rationale of the activity, emphasizing the importance of community-based learning and sustainability.

The first lecture, “Baboyang Walang Amoy,” was presented by Ms. Melanie Nallos and Dr. Edunel Sala, who discussed practical approaches to odor-free hog-raising as an environmentally friendly farming practice. An open forum and photo opportunity followed the session.

In the afternoon, Mr. James F. Macosang, L.Agri., led the second lecture on “Sustainable Backyard Gardening,” highlighting strategies for home-based food production and urban agriculture.

Engr. Ana Lea A. Zapanta, MPA, and Mr. Elmar M. Patiga, MSAns, delivered the closing remarks, expressing appreciation to the resource speakers, participants, and organizers for their contributions to the program’s success.

The activity reflected SICC’s ongoing commitment to extend its academic mission beyond the classroom, equipping communities with the knowledge and skills necessary to support sustainable development and environmental stewardship. //HJO
