🌍 What is a Watershed? πŸ’§

A watershed is an area of land where all the rainwater and surface water flow into one common place, like a river, lake or ocean. You can think of it like nature’s own drainage system everything eventually moves toward a single outlet.

When it rains, water doesn’t just stay where it falls. It travels across the land, flowing through small streams, joining bigger rivers and finally reaching one main point. All the land that contributes water to that point is called a watershed.

The boundaries of a watershed are usually formed by higher areas like hills or mountains, known as divides. These natural barriers guide the direction of water flow, separating one watershed from another.

Watersheds are very important for our daily lives. They help supply clean water, support plants and animals and even reduce flooding. But at the same time, anything we do on land like pollution or deforestation can affect the water quality inside that watershed.

🌱 Protecting watersheds means protecting our water, environment and future.
