𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 🍃

Ang ating kalikasan ay dapat pangalagaan, dahil dito nakasalalay ang buhay natin at ng mga susunod pang mga henerasyon. Ngayong araw, ipinagdiriwang natin ang 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, at ipinapaalala sa atin ng temang “𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁” na ang bawat galaw natin para sa kalikasan ay may malaking tulong sa buong mundo. 🌱

Ipinagmamalaki natin dito sa Lalawigan ng Quirino ang mayaman nating saribuhay at ang mga katutubong species na matatagpuan sa ating mga kagubatan at kabundukan. Ilan sa mga ito ay ang 𝗜𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲, ang 𝗗𝗶𝘁𝗮, ang pitcher plant na tinatawag na 𝗞𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗴 ng mga Ibaloi, at ang 𝙍𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙖 𝙖𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙖 na makikita sa Quirino Protected Landscape (QPL). Ang mga ito ay hindi lamang simbolo ng likas na ganda ng ating lalawigan kundi mahalagang bahagi ng ating mga ecosystem na dapat protektahan. 🌳

Ngayon ang tamang panahon para kumilos. Magtanim ng puno, magtapon ng basura sa tamang lalagyan, umiwas sa pagsira ng kalikasan, at makiisa sa mga programang pangkapaligiran. Ilan lamang ito sa mga maaari nating gawin para makatulong tayo sa pagpapanatili ng ating saribuhay. 🌿

Kailyans, sama-sama nating pangalagaan ang kalikasan ngayon para sa mas luntian, mas ligtas, at mas masaganang kinabukasan. 💚

𝐀𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐊𝐁𝐀 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭

In line with the Provincial Government of Quirino’s commitment to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation, the 𝐀𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 has been selected as one of the pilot sites for the implementation of global and national Key Biodiversity Area (KBA) delineation standards under the project “𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀,” implemented by the Biodiversity Conservation Society of the Philippines in collaboration with the UP Diliman Biodiversity Research Laboratory.

From May 11–18, 2026, comprehensive biodiversity assessments were conducted across selected cave systems and surrounding habitats within Aglipay Caves. The surveys focused on documenting flora and fauna, assessing habitat conditions, and identifying endemic and conservation-priority species.

Field activities covered birds, bats, small mammals, amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates, plants, and cave ecosystems. A total of eight caves were assessed to generate updated ecological data that will support the refinement and identification of Key Biodiversity Areas in the Philippines.

On May 19, 2026, the research team presented their initial findings. Project Manager Jay Sebastian Fidelino reported that 24 bird species were recorded through netting, including 17 endemic species. Transect walks further documented 62 bird species, 29 of which are endemic. The team also recorded 16 mammal species, composed of 14 bats and 2 rats, along with other key flora and fauna of ecological importance, including several conservation-priority species.

Additional observations included amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates, bats, and cave-dwelling organisms within the study sites. Plant identification and validation are still ongoing as collected specimens continue to undergo laboratory verification.

The study initially focused on Cave No. 6 in Disiluad, identified as a known habitat of the cave shrimp (𝙀𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙪𝙨 𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙨), first documented in 1978. The research team is also set to return during the wet season to further validate findings and monitor the continued presence of this species within the cave ecosystem.

Kapag may mga bubuyog, may buhay — kaya nararapat lamang na protektahan natin sila sa mga simpleng paraan gaya ng pagtatanim ng mga bulaklak, na siyang pinagkukunan ng nectar na pagkain nila, at pag-iwas sa mga mapaminsalang kemikal.

Maliit man sila sa ating mga paningin, malaking ambag naman ang hatid nila sa mundo. 💛

Maaaring huling araw na ng International Compost Awareness Week, ngunit hindi dito nagtatapos ang ating responsibilidad para sa kalikasan. 🌱♻️

Ang bawat tirang pagkain, tuyong dahon, at nabubulok na materyales ay hindi basura — maaari itong maging buhay para sa lupa. Sa pamamagitan ng composting, nababawasan natin ang polusyon, napapangalagaan ang kalikasan, at napapalusog ang ating kapaligiran.

Mula sa simpleng composting, nagsisimula ang malaking pagbabago.

This World Aquatic Animal Day, we celebrate the beauty of these species and the vital role they have in our daily lives—providing food, livelihoods, and protection for millions of Filipinos. Our oceans and waterways are more than just natural resources; they are part of our identity and our future.

This year’s theme, “The Human Gaze: Impacts on Aquatic Animals,” tells us that the way we see, interact with, and use our waters has legitimate consequences—our actions can either protect marine life or put it at danger.
