Early today, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. personally visited the victims of the deadly 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu, extending support and assurance of government assistance.

Meanwhile, the BFP Augmentation Team has been deployed to Northern Cebu to conduct search, rescue, and verification operations. The Special Rescue Force (SRF) personnel from BFP Region 6 and BFP Region 7 immediately responded and conducted ground verification of reported casualties.

Upon further validation with the property owner and tenant, it was confirmed that no individual was trapped inside the affected structure. However, reports indicated that pets were unfortunately caught in the debris.

The Bureau of Fire Protection continues its unwavering commitment to safeguard lives and provide immediate response in times of calamities.

ATM: The Bureau of Fire Protection, through the Directorate for Operations, successfully commenced the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for the enhancement of the Operational Procedures Manual. This vital undertaking aims to further standardize, streamline, and strengthen the operational guidelines of the BFP towards more effective fire protection, rescue, and emergency response services nationwide.

The Opening Ceremony was highlighted with the inspirational message of FCSUPT GILBERT D DOLOT, OIC - Chief Directorial Staff, together with the opening remarks delivered by FSSUPT ROBERT M. PACIS, Acting Director for Operations.

This 3-day activity gathers key officers and personnel nationwide to share insights, experiences, and best practices that will ensure the OPM remains responsive to the current demands of public safety and disaster risk reduction.

Last September 22 - 27, 2025, officers from the BFP National Headquarters and 7-members Rope Rescue Team of the BFP's Special Rescue Force completed the Rope Rescue Level 2 (Technician Level) Training Session and Coordination Meeting on Mentoring and Strenghthening Collaboration at the Fire and Rescue Academy of Malaysia.

Today, Deputy Chief for Operations FCSUPT WILBERTO RICO NEIL A KWAN TIU, facilitated the official reporting to the BFP NHQ Command Group and Directorates, ensuring that key learnings and operational applications were properly cascaded.

In line with this, FSSUPT ROBERT M PACIS, Director for Operations, as one of the contingents, presented a comprehensive summary of the training through an audio-visual presentation (AVP) highlighting the technical skills acquired, best practices shared, and the importance of advanced rope rescue capability in enhancing BFP’s operational readiness and international cooperation.

This initiative reflects the Bureau’s continuing commitment to equip its personnel with globally recognized competencies to better serve and protect communities in times of complex emergencies.

TYPHOON “OPONG” MONITORING AND UPDATES

LOOK: In line with the Bureau of Fire Protection’s mandate to ensure the safety and preparedness of our communities, the BFP NHQ Directorate for Operations headed by FSSUPT ROBERT M PACIS, conducted continuous monitoring and situational updates regarding the onslaught of Typhoon “Opong.”

Early today, the activity was personally overseen by Hon. Serafin P. Barretto Jr., DILG Undersecretary for Public Safety, with the assistance of Deputy Director for Operations FSSUPT ARTHUR L SAWATE together with FSUPT JOEL DIWATA AND FSUPT BRYAN POCYAO.

Through this coordinated effort, timely reports and operational directives were cascaded to the field offices to guarantee an effective and immediate response to the needs of the affected areas.

This initiative underscores the commitment of the DILG and the BFP to strengthen disaster preparedness, enhance inter-agency coordination, and uphold public safety in times of calamities.
