Department of Agriculture - Philippine Rural Development Project Working for broad-based rural development towards inclusive growth
(1)

The Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) is a national project under the Department of Agriculture that aims to establish a modern, inclusive, value chain-oriented, and climate-resilient agriculture and fisheries sector. Likewise, it aims to strengthen good governance, transparency and accountability mechanisms at all stages of the project cycle. It also intends to operationalize a local-le

vel convergence platform among relevant national line agencies and other stakeholders (private sector, civil society, producers, and academe) to synergize programs and projects that benefit the greater segment of the farmers and fishers towards attaining inclusive growth. The Project is jointly funded by the World Bank, the National Government and the Local Government Units (LGUs).

Ito ang naging pahayag ni ๐‡๐ž๐ง๐ซ๐ฒ ๐.

| As the DA-PRDP Scale-Up continues to support the implementation of approved enterprise subprojects, beneficiary farmer organizations are also being equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to manage their enterprises sustainably.

Held on August 25โ€“27, 2026 in Tarlac City, Tarlac, the Bookkeeping and Financial Management Training strengthened participantsโ€™ capacity in financial recording, budgeting, income and expense monitoring, and preparation of basic financial reports.

For the cooperatives, better financial management means more than keeping recordsโ€”it helps their management make informed decisions, promote transparency, and safeguard the resources entrusted to them.

Through capacity-building initiatives like this, PRDP Scale-Up helps ensure that supported enterprises are not only established, but are equipped to grow, remain accountable, and create lasting benefits for their farmer-members.

| For years, banana growers in Maragusan, Davao de Oro, took a chance every time they brought in new planting material. They sourced varieties from outside the municipality, sometimes from other provinces, waited weeks for their orders, transported the seedlings home, and planted them. Only later would they find out whether the plants would perform as expected.

MAGROW Growers Agribusiness Head Dexter Amaranto remembers how growers sourced and benchmarked banana varieties from other areas, only to discover that some did not maintain the expected characteristics once grown on their farms. Some produced irregular bunches or fruit that failed to meet desired standards.

For Sultan Kudarat's coffee producers, turning a promising business idea into a working enterprise requires more than a good plan. It requires a proposal strong enough to move through technical review and toward possible implementation. That process continued through the PSO-RPCO Joint Technical Assistance (JTA) for the Integrated Coffee Enterprise of Sultan Kudarat, conducted from August 24 to 28, 2026, in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

The five-day activity brought together technical teams to assess the readiness and completeness of the enterprise's Business Plan and identify areas that still need to be strengthened.

| Financing, insurance, and stronger partnerships were at the center of the Mindanao C.A.F.E. PRDP Scale-Up Forum, which brought together FCAs, LGUs, project implementers, and financing and insurance partners in Davao City from August 25โ€“28.

Over four days, participants explored ways to strengthen enterprise readiness, manage risks, and connect PRDP-supported enterprises with opportunities that can help them grow beyond project assistance.
