The Global Privacy Assembly’s Working Group on Data Sharing for the Public Good has launched a new international initiative exploring the intersection between data protection and anti‑money laundering / counter‑terrorist financing (AML/CFT) frameworks.

Under the sub‑group “Privacy and Integrity in Partnership: Data Protection and AML/CFT for the Public Good”, we are examining how data is shared for AML/CFT purposes, with a focus on strengthening clarity, trust and lawful practice, while upholding individuals’ rights and supporting effective action against financial crime.

As part of our information‑gathering phase, we are inviting experts and stakeholders from across public authorities, the private sector, civil society and international organisations to contribute insights, research, case studies and practical experience.

We are particularly interested in:

• Practical challenges at the interface between data protection and AML/CFT obligations in the context of data sharing
• National or regional legal and regulatory approaches
• Data‑sharing models and safeguards used in practice
• Case studies illustrating good practice or areas of uncertainty
• Research on risks, benefits and impacts on individuals
• Collaborative work involving financial institutions, FIUs, regulators or law enforcement

Your contributions will help shape international material aimed at strengthening compliance, consistency and trust across jurisdictions, directly contributing to the public good.

🔒 Happy Data Protection Day! 🔒

On 28 January every year, along with the and community around the world, we celebrate . It marks the signing of Convention 108, the world’s first legally binding international treaty dedicated to protecting privacy in the digital age.

This week we’re raising awareness about why privacy and data protection matter for Islanders, in the following ways:

➤ Launching our Strategic Roadmap 2026-2028. Information Commissioner Paul Vane will be reinforcing our stance that enforcement action will be taken without delay or hesitation, where warranted and where risks to Islanders’ personal data and privacy are identified.

➤ Collaborating with industry representatives and organisations to provide data protection law advice and guidance via simulation exercises and seminars.

➤ Working with Jersey’s young people to ensure they understand how personal data risks could put them in harm’s way and helping them to protect their personal information.

➤ Opening our doors at 5 Castle Street to invite small business owners, sole traders and start-ups to join us to chat about local data protection law and get practical privacy tips.
