welcome to the riding reader page!

hi, i'm riz (ᵃᵏᵃ mk) (ᵃᵏᵃ starling), i'd like to think i read and ride ꉂ (´∀`)ʱªʱªʱª but that's not always true especially as of late~

my current read is sitting on its 102nd day of *trying to be read* and i have not ridden a bike all year as i don't even own one atm

it's precisely the reason why i have not been posting here as much until i picked up junk journaling as my new hyperfixation >⩊<

i am still determined to finish a book or two before 2025 ends and perhaps create a new system that wont get me slumped ദ്ദി ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ ) hopefully, by next year, i can also start riding a bike again so i can take you to bike-friendly reading spots (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

til then, i hope you can stick around as i share maybe some other facets of my life like...
-my very fulfilling job 💼
-pro wrestling 🤼‍♀️ (i am booked on a show this nov 30 which i am mentaIIy crashing out about!!)
-runs 🏃‍♀️hikes⛰️and other fitness endeavors 🏋️‍♀️
-songs i write 🎶
-films i watch 🎞️
-events i go to 🎭

and if you're in the QC/UST area, feel free to hmu for a journaling sesh!! ₊˚❀.ೃ࿔*:・ thank ü

last day of Cinemalaya @ UPFI and i watched both Republika ng Pipolipinas and Bloom Where You Are Planted

Republika ng Pipolipinas quick review

This is a great commentary on how even the purest intentions can get easily pol!t,cized. All it takes is one skewed interpretation, one misaligned step, and a whole movement/cause will be put to waste! This was a highly engaging and very well-executed film! The imagery was spot on with eductaional quips on micronations and cliché media tactics! 4/5⭐️ for me~

📍jinjee cafe, sampaloc manila
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

this is my sister's favorite cafe and i see why... the food and drinks here are fantastic! i got a bowl of jeyuk, an ube drink, and some nachos 😋 all of those costed less than what what i had at manila cafe!

i still think my overall journaling experience at manila cafe was better, which might be an unfair judgment since that's really tailored for students while this is for the general public who may just want to grab a bite or have a chat.

the owner was really nice to me tho! maybe he thought i was a tourist because i had 2 bags with me lol just full of journaling materials 😅 i will still come back here, probably to try their other stuff and not to junk journal hehe

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

i've been eye-ing this cafe ever since it boomed on tiktok but it's always full so i never go. but on this rainy day, i was determined because i really wanted to continue junk journaling about my taiwan trip and it did not disappoint!

i found the coziest, well-lit corner and just stayed there for hours, successfully off of my phone (bec the data signal is weak as well as their wifi). i love the big, sturdy table and the vibe is just very conducive for studying; i totally get the hype!

the food was alright. kinda on the pricier side. i like the drink that i got even tho it was too sweet for me. will definitely come back!

Cinemalaya goes to UPFI + film review of WARLA

Warla is a story of a group of transwomen whose mission is to get fully transitioned in Thailand by sc4mm,ng foreign nationals. They take in their newest member, Kitkat, a 19-year-old who got kicked out of her home for being transgender. Kitkat gets into the group's M.O. reluctantly as 1) she has no desire to fully transition because she already believes in her heart that she's a woman, and 2) hurting others for money is against her values.

Although the whole premise interested me, I thought there were many off elements. Like that prejudiced scene in the bathroom; granted that things like that actually happen, the ex*****on just felt a bit forced. I was also wondering why during the altercation, only the head of the gang, the bait, the arm, and Kitkat were present when so many other characters were shown at the onset. Where were they?

I enjoyed the screening overall. I guess I just had high hopes as it is an important topic that I personally believe should be talked about more and I also feel protective of the impression it makes because... don't we want trans rights to be taken seriously?
