The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, presently existing, is hereby reorganized and shall have the following functions:

• Maintains a nationwide network pertaining to observation and forecasting of weather and flood and other conditions affecting national safety, welfare and economy;

• Undertake activities relative to observation, collection, assessment and processing of atmospheric and allied data for the benefit of agriculture, commerce and industry;

• Engage in studies of geophysical and astronomical phenomena essential to the safety and welfare of the people;

• Undertake researches on the structure, development and motion of typhoons and formulate measures for their moderation; and

•Maintain effective linkages with scientific organizations here and abroad and promote exchange of scientific information and cooperation among personnel engaged in atmospheric, geophysical, astronomical and space studies.

TROPICAL STORM “KROVANH” IS MOVING SOUTHEASTWARD OVER THE COASTAL WATERS OF OKINAWA, JAPAN

➣ Location of Center (4:00 PM):
The center of the Tropical Storm KROVANH was estimated based on all available data at 810 km Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon or over the coastal waters of Okinawa, Japan (OUTSIDE PAR) (25.7°N, 127.7°E).
➣ Intensity:
Maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 80 km/h, and central pressure of 992 hPa.
➣ Present Movement:
Southeastward at 25 km/h
➣ Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds
Strong to gale-force winds extend outwards up to 550 km from the center

GENERAL OUTLOOK FOR THE FORECAST PERIOD
• Tropical Storm KROVANH is forecast to move generally southeastward and will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between tomorrow morning and early afternoon (06 September). Once inside the PAR, the tropical cyclone will be given its former local name PILANDOK. While moving eastward over the Philippine Sea, it will shift northeastward and exit the PAR by Monday (07 September) before turning northward towards southern Japan.
• This disturbance will maintain its tropical storm category until Monday and weaken into a tropical depression by Tuesday (08 September).
• Landfall over the country remains unlikely and this disturbance is not expected to directly affect the weather or sea conditions over the next 3 days. However, it may continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat over Luzon and Visayas in the coming days.

Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to continue monitoring for updates related to this tropical cyclone.

Unless there is an intermediate issuance, the next tropical cyclone advisory will be issued at 11:00 PM today.

Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall.
The public disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measure to protect life and property. PAGASA Regional Services Divisions may issue Heavy Rainfall Warnings/Thunderstorms Advisories, and other severe weather information specific to their areas of responsibility as appropriate.
Unless significant changes occur, the next Weather Advisory will be issued at 11:00 PM today.
𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The key difference between a 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 and a 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 lies in their forecast period, coverage areas, and accuracy. A 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 provides forecasts for the next three hours and applies up to the municipal level. It is more precise as it utilizes Doppler radar technology to track real-time rainfall intensity, making it highly effective for immediate decision-making in flood-prone areas. A 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲, on the other hand, covers a 24-hour period but is issued only at the provincial level. It provides a broader outlook on potential weather disturbances but lacks the short-term accuracy of 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. For class suspensions or other official decisions, please refer to 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 issued by the respective PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.

As of 2:00 PM today, 05 September 2026, the Tropical Depression (formerly LPA 09a) has exited the monitoring domain of PAGASA.

Meanwhile, the Tropical Storm with an international name "KROVANH" (formerly PILANDOK/LPA 08j) has reentered PAGASA's monitoring domain (TCID).

All are advised to monitor updates from PAGASA-DOST.
