With heavy rains affecting parts of the country, knowing where climate risks are highest is critical to protecting communities and guiding public investments.

The DENR, under the leadership of Sec. Mitch Cuna, is strengthening provincesโ€™ capacity through the Provincial Climate Risk Diagnostic (PCRD) Tool, which helps local governments assess climate risks, identify priority areas, and direct resources where they can have the greatest impact.

Better data means better planning, stronger resilience, and communities better prepared for climate risks.

From January to August 2026, DENR conducted 71 enforcement operations against wildlife poaching, illegal possession, and trafficking across the country.

โ€œProtecting our wildlife requires sustained and decisive enforcement,โ€ Sec. Mitch Cuna said. โ€œThrough sustained enforcement, strengthened coordination, proper investigation and case preparation, we remain committed to ensuring that violations of our wildlife laws are addressed and that our countryโ€™s wildlife resources are protected.โ€

The confiscated wildlife are turned over to appropriate DENR wildlife facilities and rehabilitation centers for proper care and assessment. When conditions allow, the animals may undergo rehabilitation and be released back into the wild.

President Bongbong Marcos is calling on cities and municipalities to adopt effective waste management systems that can help address both garbage and flooding.

The DENR is supporting LGUs in adopting these solutions so less waste ends up in our waterways, neighborhoods stay cleaner, and communities can be better prepared for flooding.

๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŒฟ

Sec. Mitch Cuna opened the ASEAN Heritage Parks Forum 2026 in Quezon City, bringing together protected area managers, Indigenous Peoples, local communities, experts, and partners from across Southeast Asia.

The opening also featured messages from Department of Tourism - Philippines Secretary Maria Bernadita Angara-Mathay, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity Executive Director Dr. Jerome Montemayor, and ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General for the Socio-Cultural Community San Lwin.

The Philippines is home to 14 ASEAN Heritage Parks, safeguarding some of our countryโ€™s most important ecosystems.

These places are more than protected areas on a map. They help keep communities safe, provide food and livelihoods, regulate water, support biodiversity, and strengthen resilience to climate change.

The Forum puts communities at the heart of conservation, recognizing the people who live in and depend on these ecosystems as essential partners in protecting them.

As ASEAN Chair, the Philippines is working with its neighbors to strengthen cooperation, share solutions, and ensure that protected areas are not only protected on paper, but effectively managed on the ground. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

The Philippine Eagleโ€™s survival is threatened when the forests it depends on are lost or degraded. Protecting these habitats goes beyond protected-area boundaries.

With 46% of its high-suitability nesting habitat found within indigenous ancestral domains, indigenous stewardship is critical to protecting these landscapes.

In line with President Bongbong Marcos' directive, the DENR, together with Philippine Eagle Foundation, United Nations Development Programme - UNDP, Global Environment Facility, the and other partners, launched a community-led conservation planning initiative for selected ancestral domains in the Eastern Mindanao Biodiversity Corridor.

By combining indigenous knowledge with conservation science, communities can help protect critical habitats and the forests they sustain.
