Officer-in-Charge, Executive Director Dr. Fernando N. Lontoc conducted a Director’s Hour with the personnel of the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) Regional Technical Operation Center XI (RTOC XI) today, August 27, 2026, as part of his continuing efforts to strengthen engagement and coordination with the Agency’s regional offices.

The Director’s Hour provided an opportunity for Dr. Lontoc to personally engage with RTOC XI personnel, discuss regional concerns and operational matters, and provide guidance on the effective implementation of NMIS programs and activities.

Following the activity, Dr. Lontoc lined up a series of visits to NMIS regional office, dialogues with stakeholders, and engagements with partner agencies as part of his directive to strengthen field engagement and foster closer coordination between the Central Office and the regions.

The initiative reflects Dr. Lontoc’s commitment to bringing leadership closer to the field and fostering a more responsive, coordinated, and unified NMIS in support of its mandate to safeguard meat safety and protect the consuming public.

The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), through the 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗠𝗜𝗘𝗗), amplified its commitment on competency-building initiatives by spearheading the 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗠𝗜𝗦 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀 (𝗠𝗜𝗢𝘀) 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 (𝗖𝗦𝗪) from August 11 to 13, 2026 at Ramada by Wyndham Hotel, Binondo, Manila.

The engagement provided twenty (20) Meat Inspection Officers (MIOs) from various Regional Technical Operations Centers (RTOCs) with an opportunity to revisit established regulations, address operational challenges, and exchange field experiences.

Through theoretical discussions, case studies, and field immersion activities, the participants enhanced their knowledge and skills in border inspection procedures, laboratory sample collection, management of adverse food safety and quality findings, and the disposition of administrative cases involving meat commodities. The training ultimately strengthened their capacity to apply sound, consistent, and risk-informed judgment in carrying out their border inspection functions.

Through continuous learning and skills enhancement, the NMIS reinforces inspection consistency, regulatory enforcement, and greater assurance that the imported meat entering the Philippine market meets applicable safety and quality requirements.
