𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 (𝗔𝗛𝗣)? 🌿

An AHP designation is more than a recognition—it creates 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱.

The AHPs are protected areas recognized for their exceptional ecological importance, biodiversity, and value to the ASEAN region. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗛𝗣 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 for present and future generations. 🌏

The DENR Mimaropa, with the support of the DENR–UNDP/GEF Biodiversity Corridor Project through the Mindoro Biodiversity Corridor Project Management Unit, formalized its partnership with Maunlad na Katutubong Samahan ng Mansaring sa Kabuhayan (MAKASAMAKA) through a Memorandum of Agreement signed by Tadyawan Tribe Chairman Noel Bueno and the President of MAKASAMAKA, Jayson Angeles. Municipal Mayor Teresita Ong served as one of the witnesses, alongside representatives from the Local Government Unit of Gloria.

| 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 🍃📝

Representatives from the Mindoro Biodiversity Corridor Project Management Unit of the DENR-UNDP/GEF Biodiversity Corridor Project, in coordination with the CENRO Sablayan, Mt. Calavite Wildlife Sanctuary (MCWS) personnel, particularly the PASu of MCWS, and the Assistant Protected Area Superintendent (APASu) of FB Harrison Game Refuge and Bird Sanctuary, successfully conducted the Community Eco-Education Caravan in Barangay Batongbuhay, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro on July 31, 2026, and Barangay Harrison, Paluan, Occidental Mindoro on August 1, 2026.

The activities in Occidental Mindoro supported the project's efforts to bring biodiversity conservation information and environmental education closer to communities within the Mindoro Biodiversity Corridor.

|| The answer is… PILI! 🌿

Did you get it right? The Pili (Canarium ovatum) is a native Philippine tree species known for its valuable nuts and is naturally found in the Bicol Region, one of the project sites of the GEF-UNDP-DENR-BMB ABS Project.

Meanwhile, Banaba (Lagerstroemia speciosa) is also a native Philippine tree species found in Central Luzon (Region III), another project site of the ABS Project.

The Implementing the National Framework on Access and Benefit Sharing of Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge in the Philippines Project supports efforts to preserve our country’s genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge, while promoting their sustainable use and fair and equitable benefit-sharing.

By learning about and appreciating our biodiversity, we all have a part to play. 💚
