National Security Adviser Eduardo SL Oban, Jr. called on young Filipinos to become active stewards of the nationโ€™s maritime future during the launch of the Bantay Dagat Youth Ambassadors at the โ€œSafeguarding Our Seas: Multi-sector Dialogue on Stewardship and National Dutyโ€ on August 28 in San Juan City. He urged the youth to develop an โ€œarchipelagic consciousnessโ€ that recognizes the Philippinesโ€™ seas as vital to the countryโ€™s security, identity, and future.

NSA Oban emphasized that safeguarding the West Philippine Sea is a whole-of-nation responsibility that goes beyond territorial defense. He said national security also means protecting marine ecosystems, ensuring food and economic security, and defending truth against misinformation and disinformation that undermines the countryโ€™s sovereign rights.

Reaffirming that the Philippinesโ€™ position in the West Philippine Sea is firmly anchored on UNCLOS and the 2016 Arbitral Award, the NSA challenged the newly commissioned youth ambassadors to translate their commitment into action through responsible citizenship, environmental stewardship, and advocacy grounded in truth and international law.

The National Security Council (NSC) participated in the inaugural Space Science and Technology Applications (SSTA) Security Training organized by the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA), held August 25โ€“27, 2026, in Quezon City. Led by PhilSA Director General Dr. Gay Jane Perez, this capacity-building initiative aims to strengthen the integration of space science and technology into the country's national security and defense efforts.

Anchored on the National Security Policy (2023โ€“2028) and the National Security Strategy 2024, this program equips security practitioners with capabilities that enhance strategic foresight, situational awareness, and risk mitigation. It also highlights the growing role of satellite data in supporting informed decision-making and whole-of-government security planning, particularly in advancing maritime domain awareness, border security, disaster resilience, and the protection of critical infrastructure.

Through its participation, the NSC reaffirms its commitment to strengthening national security through innovation, interagency collaboration, and science-based capabilities that contribute to a more secure, resilient, and future-ready Philippines.

Today, the National Security Council pays tribute to the heroes of the Philippines whose courage, sacrifice, and committed service continue to uphold peace, advance progress, and strengthen the security and resilience of our nation for generations to come.

We honor the memory of those who fought for our freedom and recognize the countless Filipinos who, through dedicated service and love of country, continue to protect and build our nation each day.
