BAI Conducts Seminar on Women’s Rights and Solo Parents’ Welfare

The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), through its Gender and Development (GAD) Program, conducted a seminar on the Magna Carta of Women (Republic Act No. 9710) and the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act (Republic Act No. 11861) today, August 4, 2026, at the Animal Disease Diagnosis and Reference Laboratory (BAI-ADDRL) Conference Room, BAI Compound, Quezon City.

The activity aimed to empower BAI’s female workforce by enhancing their awareness of the rights, opportunities, benefits and privileges provided under these laws. The seminar brought together BAI employees and members of the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) for discussions on gender equality, women’s empowerment and support mechanisms for solo parents. # # #

BAI Pays Courtesy Call on PNP Chief to Strengthen Animal Welfare Enforcement

Officials from the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) paid a courtesy call to the Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. today, July 28, 2026, at Camp Crame to strengthen partnership in promoting animal welfare and public health.

Discussions on the meeting included the implementation of the Animal Welfare Enforcement Officer (AWEO) Training, the Animal Welfare Act and the Anti-Rabies Act. Discussions highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination between the BAI and the PNP in enforcing animal welfare laws, improving rabies prevention, and building the capacity of law enforcement personnel through the AWEO training. # # #

𝗣𝗵 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

The Philippines, through the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), successfully hosted the 2nd ASEAN One Health Network (AOHN) Meeting from July 14-16, 2026, in Quezon City, convening representatives from ASEAN Member States, sectoral bodies, and international partners to strengthen regional collaboration on One Health.

As the incoming Chair of the AOHN Coordinating Committee for a one-year term, the Philippines led discussions on advancing coordinated action against emerging health threats.

In the three-day meeting, discussions were centered on key regional health initiatives, highlighted by the review of the ASEAN Regional Priority Pathogen List and the finalization of the implementation plan for the ASEAN Strategic Framework to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance (ASF-AMR).

Participants engaged in strategic dialogues aimed at establishing regional strategies for priority zoonotic diseases and food safety, while also addressing the development of the ASEAN One Health Workforce and securing sustainable partnerships and funding. Updates on the ongoing development of the implementation of the ASEAN One Health Joint Plan of Action (AOHJPA), were also discussed, reinforcing collaborative efforts to mitigate cross-sectoral health threats across the region.

The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening One Health policies through enhanced legislation, improved food safety surveillance, electronic traceability systems, biosecurity capacity building, and sustainable partnership to address cross-sectoral health challenges.

Representatives from the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Agriculture (DA), and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) reaffirmed their commitment to advancing One Health initiatives in the region.

The animal health sector, represented by the DA through BAI, likewise expressed its continued support for ASEAN One Health programs aimed at protecting human, animal, and environmental health.

The Philippines also expressed its appreciation to the ASEAN Secretariat for its continued support in fostering collaboration among ASEAN Member States. # # #

The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), through its Animal Health and Welfare Division (AHWD), successfully conducted the Animal Welfare Enforcement Officer (AWEO) 2026: Workshop and Training on Strengthening Animal Welfare Enforcement in Regional and Local Governments on July 16-17, 2026, at Las Piñas City, Metro Manila.

The two-day capacity-building activity brought together animal welfare enforcement officers, veterinarians, and representatives from national and regional government agencies to enhance their knowledge and skills in implementing the Animal Welfare Act and related regulations.

Various topics were discussed during the plenary sessions led by local and international experts from A World of Good Initiative Inc., covering topics on the fundamentals of animal welfare, risk-based inspection, species-specific welfare, enforcement strategies, transport and slaughter regulations, evidence gathering, and the latest developments in animal welfare science.

Participants were also exposed to focus group discussions to exchange best practices and strengthen coordination in promoting responsible and effective animal welfare enforcement nationwide.

Interactive sessions, workshops, and case study exercises further equipped participants with practical tools for addressing animal welfare concerns in their respective jurisdictions.

The training-workshop was supported by A World of Good Initiative Inc, a non-profit organization committed to promote animal welfare and advance initiatives that strengthen animal care, protection, and humane practices. # # #

The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), through the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP) and in collaboration with Cavite State University - Bee Research, Innovation, Trade, and Extension Center (CvSU-BRITE Center), conducted the Basic Urban Beekeeping Production Training for qualified beneficiaries on June 14, 2026, at the BAI Compound in Quezon City.

The training equipped participants with knowledge and skills on honey bee management, hive maintenance and good beekeeping practices. Starter beekeeping modules were also distributed to support the establishment of their beekeeping enterprises.

Qualified beneficiaries were selected through a screening process conducted in coordination with the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), City Veterinary Office (CVO), Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) and DA Regional Field Office (DA RFO), which included submission of a Letter of Intent, site validation and beneficiary assessment.

The activity is part of the implementation of the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP), which promotes food security, improved nutrition and sustainable livelihood opportunities through urban agriculture and livestock-based enterprises, including beekeeping. # # #
