AFP Honors Exemplary Service at 2026 Metrobank Foundation Awards

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), in partnership with the Metrobank Foundation and the Rotary Club of Makati, honored three exemplary military personnel during the 2026 Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipino Award for Soldiers (MFOFAS) ceremony held here today. The event was led by AFP Vice Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Rommel P. Roldan, representing AFP Chief of Staff General Antonio G. Nafarrete, who recognized the awardees for their outstanding contributions, dedication, and commitment to public service.

Receiving the prestigious recognition were Lieutenant Colonel Rommel M Geli PN(M), Commanding Officer of Marine Battalion Landing Team 9; Staff Sergeant John Daren P Noche PAF, Assistant NCO-in-Charge for Safety of Tactical Operation Group 10, Tactical Operation Wing Eastern Mindanao Command; and Staff Sergeant Joebelle O Cerdinio PA, Signal NCO of the 102nd Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division. Their accomplishments exemplify the AFP’s core values of honor, service, and patriotism, demonstrating how professional excellence, competence, and dedication can create a lasting impact within the military and the communities they serve.

“Ang pagkilalang ito ay pagpupugay sa inyong nagawa. Dalhin Ninyo ang parehong diwa sa susunod na tungkulin, at ibahagi ang inyong kaalaman upang mas marami pa ang makinabang sa inyong nasimulan. Your recognition reminds us that every act of committed service strengthens our organization and contributes to a stronger nation,” Lieutenant General Roldan said. The AFP likewise expressed its appreciation to the Metrobank Foundation and the Rotary Club of Makati for their continued partnership in recognizing military personnel who embody excellence, integrity, and selfless service to the Filipino people.

IN THE NEWS | Gibo to reserve force: Protect Philippines land, maritime domain

MANILA, Philippines — Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. has called on the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Reserve Force to help protect the country’s maritime domain.

Teodoro made the call during the culmination of the 47th AFP National Reservist Week at Camp Aguinaldo on Saturday as he highlighted the Reserve Force’s role in addressing gaps in the AFP’s active duty force structure through “force and mission replication and support,” including “functional replication, and substitution, if necessary, of operating units.”

IN THE NEWS | AFP affirms commitment to orderly, peaceful BARMM parliamentary polls

COTABATO CITY – As the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) reaches a historic milestone, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has maintained its commitment to supporting the electoral process and helping ensure that the people can participate freely, safely and peacefully in the region’s first parliamentary elections on Monday, Sept. 14.

This was the pronouncement of AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete on Saturday as he led the security and situation updates briefing at Camp Siongco with Army chief Lieutenant General Donald M. Gumiran, Western Mindanao Command chief Major General Jose Vladimir R. Cagara, and 6th Infantry Division commander Brig. Gen. Ricky P. Bunayog and officers of the Army’s Joint Task Force Central.

AFP, US Pacific Command, Canadian Armed Forces successfully conduct 20th MMCA in Sulu Sea

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), United States Pacific Command (USPACOM), and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) successfully conducted the 20th Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MMCA) from September 12 to 13, 2026, in the Sulu Sea.

The activity enhanced interoperability among participating forces, strengthened maritime security, and supported information-sharing and coordination. It also contributed to a safer and more peaceful region by improving the participating forces’ shared understanding of activities at sea.

The AFP deployed BRP Diego Silang (FFG7), one Sokol search-and-rescue (SAR) aircraft, and one Black Hawk helicopter. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) participated through BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406).

The CAF deployed HMCS Regina (FFH 334), while the USPACOM participated with a P-8A maritime patrol aircraft.

The MMCA featured a series of maritime and air activities, including Communications Exercise (COMMEX), Division Tactics (DIVTACS) and Officer of the Watch (OOW) Maneuver Exercise, and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA).

The successful activity underscored the Philippines’ commitment to strengthening partnerships with like-minded countries and enhancing collective capabilities in support of a secure and rules-based maritime environment.///

AFP Culminates 47th National Reservist Week, Underscores Reservists’ Critical Role in National Defense

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) culminated the 47th National Reservist Week on September 12, highlighting the critical role of reservists in strengthening national defense and supporting the Regular Force.

Held in Camp Aguinaldo, the culminating ceremony brought together AFP leaders and reservists for lectures, recognition activities, and the presentation of achievements. It carried the theme “Laang Kawal: Sandigan ng Bayan sa Kapayapaan, Kaayusan, at Katatagan.”

Secretary of National Defense Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. delivered the keynote message, emphasizing the importance of a capable and responsive Reserve Force in strengthening the country’s overall defense posture.

The AFP calls on all reservists to sustain their professionalism and remain prepared to augment the Regular Force when called upon. As reliable force multipliers, reservists play an important role in safeguarding the Filipino people and strengthening national security and resilience.///
