The mission statement of the Bureau defines the core purpose of its existence as espoused as: “To develop and promote agricultural and fishery standards, and enforce organic agriculture regulations ensuring consumers’ safety and product quality, and contributing to environmental protection, worker’s welfare and enhanced market access.”

Meanwhile, the vision represents the desired state to which the Bureau commits itself. It provides a concrete way for stakeholders and employees to understand the meaning and purpose of BAFS by describing the desired impact and long-term result of the Bureau’s efforts. The medium-term vision of the Bureau is: “By 2025, the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards is the trusted agency for the development of agricultural and fishery standards within ASEAN, and in the enforcement of organic agriculture regulations.”

The Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (DA-BAFS) participated in a 3-day training on Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) held on September 1–3, 2026, in Quezon City.

Organized by the UP Public Administration Research and Extension Services Foundation, Inc. (UPPAF) and funded by the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF), the program brought together key non-food regulatory agencies, including BAFE, BSWM, NTA, and PhilFIDA. The initiative aims to enhance the capacity of DA regulatory bodies to develop coherent, sound, and evidence-based policies for the sector.

The DA-BAFS participated in the “Let’s Talk Coconut” Forum 2026, held on August 28, 2026, at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City, as part of the celebration of the 40th National Coconut Week.

Organized by the DA-Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), this year’s forum focused on the importance of standards in the trade of coconut products, bringing together stakeholders from the government, academe/research institutions, private sectors, civil society organizations (CSOs), and other sectors of the coconut industry.

Representing DA-BAFS as resource speakers were Mr. Aerol Dexter C. Ebora, RAgr; Ms. Princess Shiella May T. Sison, RAgr; and Mr. Jyles Louis M***a, RAgr, Project Managers from the Crops Section of the Standards Development Division (SDD). They discussed the DA-BAFS Standards Development Process for Primary Processed Products, the Philippine National Standard (PNS) on Mature Coconut—Product Standard—Grading and Classification (PNS/BAFS 329:2022), and the PNS on Young Coconut—Product Standard—Grading and Classification (PNS/BAFS 65:2024), respectively.
