Igniting nationalism through original music: Teatro Kaugnay continues “Liyab” theatrical run

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City - In celebration of the National Heritage Month, the 7th Infantry “Kaugnay” Division’s homegrown Teatro Kaugnay brings its original musical “Liyab” to patrons at the Ricarte Hall, Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on May 25, 2026.

Written and directed by Cpt. Ralph Andy L. Ranario, the one-act play “Liyab” poses a challenge to fellow Filipinos' understanding of nationalism through the interweaving of history, culture, and national identity.

Army Chief Lt. Gen. Nafarrete personally witnessed its matinee run and commended the actors and production team behind the musical. Speaking in Filipino, Lt. Gen. Nafarrete stressed the Philippine Army’s initiatives to contribute to national consciousness through the support and funding of creative pursuits. He added that Teatro Kaugnay successfully interpreted the lessons brought about by our history, igniting fraternity and nationalism in its audiences.

Viewers and supporters may still watch the final performance on May 26, 2026.

With the vision of highlighting the significance of Philippine history and culture as the core foundation of our national identity, Kaugnay Division Commander Maj. Gen. Joseph Norwin D. Pasamonte led the creation of Teatro Kaugnay.

The homegrown theatre group previously showcased "Liyab" on March 30, 2026, at the Tejeros Hall, Armed Forces of the Philippines Commission Officers Clubhouse, Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

Maj. Gen. Pasamonte also serves as the executive producer and co-produced the musical with private stakeholder KreativExpo Inc. The Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Operations, OG7, partnered with 7ID to stage the production anew.

US Army Hawaii, 2ID reinforce PH-US military partnership

CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal — The long-standing partnership between the Philippines and the United States was further strengthened as Commanding General of the 25th Infantry (Tropical Lightning) Division, United States Army Hawaii, Major General James “Jay” Bartholomees visited the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division at Camp Capinpin in Tanay, Rizal on Monday, May 25.

The visit highlighted the continuing cooperation between the Philippine Army and the United States Army through activities aimed at enhancing professional exchanges, mutual understanding, and regional security cooperation. Major General Bartholomees paid a courtesy call to 2ID Commander Major General Ramon Zagala and participated in several engagement activities with Jungle Fighter troops.

Among the activities conducted were a tree planting activity in front of Ynares Gym, a tour of selected facilities inside Camp Capinpin, and capability demonstrations showcasing the operational readiness and interoperability of both forces. The engagements served as an opportunity to exchange insights, share experiences, and reinforce the enduring alliance between the two countries.

Highlighting the visit was the awarding of the Jungle Fighter Plaque and Stripe to Major General Bartholomees as a symbol of friendship, mutual respect, and the continuing partnership between the Philippine Army and the United States Army. A jeepney-inspired memento was likewise presented to Major General Bartholomees, symbolizing Filipino resiliency, unity, and the enduring spirit of community.

In a statement, Maj. Gen. Zagala emphasized that engagements like these go beyond military tradition and reflect the strong relationship shared by both nations.

“Our partnership with the United States continues to play an important role in strengthening cooperation, improving interoperability, and promoting stability in the region. Through shared engagements and mutual trust, we continue to build relationships that contribute to peace, readiness, and security,” said Maj. Gen. Zagala.

Maj. Gen. Bartholomees likewise presented the “Lightning Badge” as a token of camaraderie and appreciation for the cordial accommodation. “From one Jungle Fighter Division to another Jungle Division,” Maj. Gen. Bartholomees emphasized. It can be gleaned that the US 25ID has also the “Jungle” Division monicker.

The visit further confirms the continuing commitment of both armies to deepen the long-standing ties between the two countries through collaboration, shared experiences, and mutual support.
