The UPD College of Engineering invites you to the 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵 (𝗜𝗪𝗪𝗚-𝗔𝗥𝗕𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱) to be held on 10-12 March 2025 in Quezon City, Philippines.
The Symposium of the International Waste Working Group Asian Regional Branch (IWWG-ARB) is a biannual event which is one of the activities facilitated by the Asian Regional Branch (ARB) of IWWG.

With the theme “𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙒𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝘽𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨”, the conference aims to provide a forum for discussing waste management trends, challenges, and solutions in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11 and SDG 12. We are happy to share that one of the project's research outputs has been published. The article “Public Perception and Socio-economic Factors on Willingness to Pay for Community-based Solid Waste Management and Plastic Waste Densification in the Philippines" was published by the Philippine Journal of Science in its December 2024 issue.

The paper describes the status of public perception toward community-based solid waste management (SWM) and plastic waste densification using the following parameters: the public's knowledge of the technology, willingness to participate in local waste collection projects, and willingness to pay for SWM services. The study analyzed how these parameters correlate with respondents' demographics and socio-economic factors.

UPD College of Engineering Dean Maria Antonia Tanchuling and Dr. Jayasanka Senaviratna, visiting professor from Saitama University, will deliver presentations on plastic pollution. Dr. Senaviratna will also share the latest research activities, postgraduate programs and scholarships in Saitama University.
