𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 | Optimizing Waste Management: Criteria Development and Technology Selection for Radioactive Waste

The Nuclear Energy Program Inter-agency Committee (NEP-IAC) Subcommittee 6 is conducting the Optimizing Waste Management: Finalizing Criteria Development and Technology Selection for Radioactive Waste Workshop from 13 to 16 July 2026 at Subic, Zambales.

Bringing together participants from government agencies, power generation sectors, local government units (LGUs), and the academe, the four-day activity aims to develop a criteria that will support the selection of appropriate radioactive waste management technologies and options, strengthening the country's approach to the safe and effective management of radioactive waste.

The Department of Energy (DOE), represented by DOE Undersecretary Giovanni Carlo J. Bacordo, convened a workshop on Nuclear Fuel Cycle Awareness and the categorization of radioactive waste, bringing together Sub-Committee 6 members and key agencies including DOST, PNRI, DENR, PHIVOLCS, DILG, DFA, DND, and DOJ.

The workshop highlighted the importance of developing a clear understanding of the nuclear fuel cycle and proper waste classification as a foundation for crafting laws, strengthening safety regulations, and ensuring the safe, secure, and responsible use of nuclear energy in the Philippines.

Advisory: Limited Operations on April 13, 2026

Please be advised that there will be limited RPSS responses to customer queries and iPOSSH operations on April 6, 2026 (morning only) due to a PNRI-wide event.

Normal operations will resume in the afternoon.

Customers with confirmed iPOSSH appointments who may be affected may proceed with their transactions from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, provided they present their appointment confirmation slip.
