The U.S. government-funded Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) Project conducted the 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐢𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐀) 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 on 11-12 August 2026 at Quezon City, Metro Manila. The event brought together key participants from the animal and public health sectors, including representatives from the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Department of Health (DOH), and regional and provincial hospital laboratories.

The Animal Health and Welfare Division (AHWD) and the Veterinary Laboratory Division (VLD) of the DA - Bureau of Animal Industry (DA‑BAI) participated in the training activity. The program primarily focused on strengthening participants’ understanding on the proper procedures in shipping biological and infectious substances. It covered procedures such as classification, packaging, labeling, and documentation, in transporting biological and infectious substances compliant with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulation (DGR). It proves crucial in the practice of biosecurity and biosafety, allowing high-risk pathogens and diagnostic samples safely reach laboratories and prevent endangering transport handlers, laboratory personnel, and the general public.

On August 21st, we remember 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐨 “𝐍𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐲” 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐉𝐫. and reflect on the values of 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐝𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 that marked his life and legacy.

May this day remind us of the importance of remembering our history, honoring those who made significant contributions to our nation, and continuing to uphold the spirit of service to the Filipino people.

To strengthen Region XIII’s capacity for early detection and response to animal diseases, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI), conducted the 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 (𝐋𝐀𝐃𝐃𝐄𝐑) Training on August 10-13, 2026, in Butuan City, Caraga.

The training brought together veterinarians and animal health professionals from DA - Regional Field Office (RFO) XIII, its Local Government Units (LGUs), and the academe to strengthen disease surveillance, investigation, reporting, and emergency response, particularly against animal diseases such as African Swine Fever (ASF) and Avian Influenza (AI) or Bird Flu.

Through open discussions, hands-on exercises, and simulation activities, participants enhanced their capacity to detect and respond to animal health threats and emergencies.

The Bureau of Animal Industry - Animal Health and Welfare Division (BAI-AHWD), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) V, conducted the Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP) Seminar on August 4-5, 2026, bringing together poultry and livestock farmers from across the Bicol Region.

The two-day activity strengthened farmers’ knowledge on GAHP certification, biosecurity, animal health and welfare, food safety, environmental compliance, and responsible farm management. This partnership reflects the continuing efforts of BAI-AHWD and DA-RFO V to bring GAHP closer to farmers and promote safer, healthier, and more sustainable animal production in the region.

The Bureau of Animal Industry - Animal Health and Welfare Division (BAI-AHWD), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) V through its Regulatory Division, successfully conducted a two-day 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐮𝐬𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 (𝐆𝐀𝐇𝐏) 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 on 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟒-𝟓, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, at Pili, Camarines Sur, bringing together poultry and livestock farmers from across the Bicol Region to promote responsible farm management, food safety, animal welfare, biosecurity, and environmental protection.

Carrying the banner "𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐠 𝐧𝐚 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐤𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚, 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐠 𝐧𝐚 𝐁𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚," the seminar provided participants with updated knowledge on the GAHP Certification Program, the Philippine National Standards (PNS) for Poultry and Swine, environmental regulations, animal welfare, food safety, and biosecurity.

In his Opening Message, Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations Lorenzo L. Alvina underscored that compliance with laws and standards should be rooted in integrity, emphasizing that responsible farming begins with choosing to do what is right even when no one is watching.

Meanwhile, Ms. Imelda P. Acompañado, Chief of the Regulatory Division, highlighted that GAHP prescribes science-based and practical farm management practices that promote food safety, animal health and welfare, environmental protection, worker health and safety, and improved farm productivity.

Leading the technical sessions were Dr. Glenn M. Reyes and the BAI-AHWD GAHP Team. The team discussed the GAHP Certification Program, including the application process and documentary requirements, the GAHP PNS Code for Poultry and Swine, and biosecurity.

The seminar also featured resource speakers from partner agencies, including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region V on environmental laws and requirements for poultry and livestock production; and the Board of Investment (BOI) on investment opportunities and fiscal incentives for the Philippines livestock and poultry industry.

One of the highlights of the seminar was the World Café Workshop, where participants shared their experiences, challenges, and practical recommendations on GAHP adoption, farm biosecurity, responsible use of veterinary drugs, waste management, and strategies to encourage more farmers to implement GAHP.

The activity concluded with the presentation of workshop outputs, participants' reflections, and the awarding of certificates, reaffirming DA-RFO V's commitment to empowering poultry and livestock farmers and advancing a safer, more resilient, and sustainable livestock industry in the region in support of its vision of "𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐠 𝐧𝐚 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐤𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚, 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐠 𝐧𝐚 𝐁𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚."
