The Memorare – Manila 1945 is a solemn marble memorial located in Plaza de Sta. Isabel within the Intramuros, the former Walled City of Manila. The memorial was erected in 1995 to commemorate and honor the more than 100,000 defenseless civilians that was killed during the intense urban war between the combined forces of US and Filipinos against the Imperial Japanese Army during the Battle for the Liberation of Manila that raged the city of Manila between February 3 and March 3, 1945. This month-long conflict was one of the most brutal episodes of urban warfare in the Pacific theater, leaving Manila as the second most devastated Allied capital in the world, after Warsaw. The Battle of Manila took a heavy toll onto the lives of many civilians who lost their lives during that Battle for Liberation of Manila against the occupying Japanese forces. The intense battle left Manila in heap of ruins, destruction and rubble caused by relentless aerial bombing, artillery barrages, armor assaults and infantry attacks to recapture Manila.
The participation of the personnel and reservists of 1302CDC in the said activity stand as a tribute to the bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering spirit of our Filipino heroes who fought for our nation's freedom.
