HOUSE BILL NO. 10551 FILED TO SAFEGUARD FILIPINO CHILDREN IN THE DIGITAL AGE
With growing concerns over the harmful effects of unrestricted social media use among children, TGP Partylist Representative and Deputy Majority Leader Congressman B**g Joson Teves, Jr. filed House Bill No. 10551 proposing the establishment of a minimum age for social media use and stronger regulations on children's access to digital platforms.
Studies and growing evidence have shown that excessive and unrestricted social media use poses significant risks to children's mental health, emotional well-being, cognitive development, privacy, and personal safety. In response, the proposed measure seeks to establish age-based standards by prohibiting social media access for children below 13 years old and regulating access for those aged 13 to 17, while requiring greater accountability from social media providers.
