𝗞𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗮 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗶-𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝗼𝗻-𝘁𝗮𝗼𝗻?

Common practice ang annual refilling ng fire extinguishers, pero hindi ibig sabihin na kailangan itong i-refill o palitan automatically dahil one year na ang lumipas.

Under the Fire Code of the Philippines, the maintenance of portable fire extinguishers follows NFPA 10.

Hindi required ang annual refilling kung maayos pa ang condition ng extinguisher. Refilling is needed kapag:

🔺 Nagamit na ang fire extinguisher
🔺 Nabawasan o nawala ang extinguishing agent
🔺 May pressure loss
🔺 May indication ng leakage

Maaaring i-check ang condition nito through its weight and pressure, depending on the type of extinguisher.

Aside from refilling, mayroon ding required maintenance intervals. For common dry chemical and halogenated agent fire extinguishers, internal inspection is generally required every six years, as applicable.

Pero kahit hindi kailangan ng annual refill, monthly external or visual inspection is still required para ma-check kung:

🔺 Nasa proper location at accessible ang extinguisher
🔺 May physical damage
🔺 May signs of leakage
🔺 Nasa proper range ang pressure
🔺 May ibang visible condition na maaaring makaapekto sa paggamit nito

May guidance din mula sa BFP regarding annual refilling. Under BFP Memorandum Circular 2016-16, prohibited sa BFP personnel ang pag-require ng annual refilling ng portable fire extinguishers for FSIC purposes kung ang extinguisher ay nasa good condition pa.

Kaya tandaan, hindi dahil one year na ang fire extinguisher, kailangan na agad itong i-refill. Ang actual condition at required maintenance ng extinguisher ang dapat maging basis.

𝗦𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘆-𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗮 𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱?

Common setup ito sa bahay at office, pero safe ba talaga?

Dalawa sa common risks nito ay overloading at loose connections. Kapag masyadong maraming high-load appliances ang nakakabit sa isang extension cord, maaaring lumampas ang current sa kaya ng wire. This causes heat buildup that can eventually damage or melt the insulation.

Loose plugs, sockets, and adapters can also generate excessive heat. Mas tumataas pa ang risk kapag low-quality o hindi safety-certified ang extension cord at chargers na ginagamit.

Para maiwasan ito:

🔺 Huwag pagsabay-sabayin sa isang extension cord ang high-load appliances gaya ng plantsa, microwave, at aircon.
🔺 Gumamit lamang ng quality at properly certified electrical products. Hanapin ang ICC sticker o PS Mark bilang patunay na dumaan ito sa tamang product certification.
🔺 Iwasang gamitin ang maluluwag na plugs, sockets, at adapters.
🔺 Ipa-design o ipa-check ang electrical system sa qualified electrical professional, tulad ng electrical engineer o master electrician.

Kung may electrical fire at safe itong gawin, disconnect the power first before using the appropriate Class C fire extinguisher.

Extension cords are useful, pero hindi dapat ito gawing permanenteng kapalit ng properly designed electrical system.

Nagpapaputok pa rin ba kayo ng sprinkler head tuwing fire drill o testing?

Mukhang magandang paraan ito para ipakitang gumagana ang sprinkler system. Pero hindi ito ang recognized testing method sa NFPA 13, NFPA 25, o Fire Code of the Philippines.

Hindi rin accurate na fire simulation ang direktang pagsindi ng apoy sa ilalim ng sprinkler. Sa actual fire, ang sprinkler ay naa-activate dahil sa init na naiipon at gumagalaw sa ilalim ng kisame, hindi dahil may apoy na nakatutok mismo sa sprinkler head.

Para i-simulate ang operation ng sprinkler system, ginagamit ang inspector’s test connection (ITC) o proper test and drain assembly. Dinisenyo ito para gayahin ang flow ng isang operating sprinkler nang hindi kailangang magsakripisyo ng sprinkler head.

At kung listed ang bagong sprinkler, factory-tested na rin ito bago makarating sa project.

Kaya sa susunod na fire drill o testing, gamitin ang tamang test connection. Hindi kailangang gawing action scene ang sprinkler. 😅
