CAMP GENERAL ARTEMIO RICARTE, Puerto Princesa City — The Western Command (WESCOM) held the 47th National Reservist Week (NRW) Fun Run 2026, with the theme “Modernong Bayanihan: Takbo para sa West Philippine Sea,” on September 5, 2026, at the WESCOM Grandstand

A total of 198 individuals participated in the 3-kilometer, 5-kilometer, and 10-kilometer categories, including representatives from all branches of service, personnel from the Technical Administrative Service, and civilian participants.

LOOK || COMMANDER, AIR DEFENSE COMMAND, PAF, VISITS WESTERN COMMAND

CAMP RICARTE, Puerto Princesa City – On September 4, 2026, the Commander, Air Defense Command of the Philippine Air Force (PAF), Major General Ronie D Petinglay PAF, paid an official visit to Headquarters, Western Command (WESCOM).

Upon his arrival, MGen Petinglay was accorded foyer honors and welcomed by Captain Mateo G Carido PN(GSC), Chief of Unified Command Staff, WESCOM.

As part of the visit, MGen Petinglay paid a courtesy call on the Commander, WESCOM, Vice Admiral Alan M Javier PN, followed by an executive session to deliberate upon strategic matters of mutual concern. The ensuing dialogue highlighted inter-command interoperability, comprehensive information sharing, and strengthened air defense capabilities to maintain an integrated, responsive defense posture within WESCOM's joint operational area.

The visit reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation, promoting regional stability, and ensuring mission effectiveness in fulfilling the overarching mission of protecting the people and securing the state.

CAMP RICARTE, Puerto Princesa City – Reinforcing the commitment to strengthening coordination and operational effectiveness, the Inspector General, Philippine Navy, Rear Admiral Emilio G Orio Jr PN, paid an official visit to Headquarters, Western Command (WESCOM) on September 4, 2026, where he was accorded sideboys' honors.

Following the honors, RAdm Orio paid a courtesy call on the Commander, WESCOM, Vice Admiral Alan M Javier PN, followed by an executive session where both leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, particularly on strengthening coordination and cooperation between WESCOM and the Philippine Navy.

The visit reaffirmed WESCOM and the Philippine Navy's commitment to strengthen coordination, promote professionalism and accountability, and ensure mission effectiveness across AFP units.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | The 5th Special Forces Battalion, led by 2Lt Sharla C Santillan (AGS) PA, CMO Asst Officer, successfully conducted an Information and Education Campaign (IEC) for AFP COMPLAN "MULAT" at Townsite, Riotuba, Bataraza on August 30, 2026.

The session, held for Youth of Koop Bata and Arnis Immersion from the students of Brookes Point National High School, Sacred Heart of Jesus High School and Leonides S Virata Memorial School, aimed to cultivate a generation of responsible, well-informed youth by focusing on national sovereignty and the critical realities of the West Philippine Sea, the initiative empowered these students to become active guardians of the nation’s interests.

Ambassador Henry S. Bensurto Jr. emphasized, the Philippines’ decision to maintain its presence at Ayungin Shoal is a matter of national security and the exercise of our lawful maritime rights. The presence of the BRP Sierra Madre serves a vital purpose: protecting Philippine interests in an area where our security and sovereign rights are directly at stake.

The National Maritime Council has reaffirmed that Philippine actions at Ayungin are firmly anchored on UNCLOS and the 2016 Arbitral Award, and are consistent with the Philippines’ sovereign rights and jurisdiction in its EEZ and continental shelf. Our position remains clear and law-based: we will protect our maritime rights, uphold international law, and safeguard the nation’s interests through a united, whole-of-government approach.
