𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐍𝐂𝐇 | 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟎, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

The Cleopatra’s Needle Critical Habitat (CNCH) Management Office conducted a Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) Campaign in Barangay Concepcion on September 10, 2026.

The activity brought together community members, barangay officials, and members of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) community to learn more about the importance of protecting and conserving the natural resources and biodiversity of CNCH.

The discussions focused on basic information about CNCH management, its three priority species, and key environmental and natural resources laws, including Republic Act No. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, Republic Act No. 9175 or the Chainsaw Act of 2002, and Presidential Decree No. 705 or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines.

Beyond information sharing, the campaign provided an open space for community members to raise questions, clarify concerns, and better understand what activities are allowed and prohibited within the critical habitat. Representatives from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSDS) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) were also present to provide guidance and address the concerns raised by the participants.

Activities like this help strengthen the partnership between CNCH and the communities within and around the critical habitat. Protecting our forests and wildlife is not only about following rules and regulations—it is also about building understanding, encouraging cooperation, and fostering a shared responsibility for the protection of our natural heritage.

The 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗮’𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁 (𝗖𝗡𝗖𝗛) 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 successfully held its 11th meeting on August 4, 2026 (Tuesday) at the Conference Room 2, 3rd Floor, New City Hall Building, Barangay Sta. Monica, Puerto Princesa City, with City Administrator Atty. Arnel M. Pedrosa serving as the presiding officer.

𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐚'𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭 (𝐂𝐍𝐂𝐇)

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office of Puerto Princesa, through the Protected Area Management Services Division, facilitated a week-long Biodiversity Assessment and Monitoring System (BAMS) at Bgy. Tanabag, one of the seven barangays that comprise the Cleopatra's Needle Critical Habitat. The activity was conducted in collaboration with the Forest Management Services Division, Wildlife Management Services Division, and the BS Biology interns from the University of the Philippines Los Baños as part of their On-the-Job Training.

This recently concluded assessment is expected to provide baseline data on the wildlife fauna diversity in the area, such as mammals, insects, and avian species, highlighting the City ENRO's mandate in conserving and protecting the biodiversity of Puerto Princesa through science-based approach and fruitful partnership with the academe and scientific community.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗡𝗖𝗛 | 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟳-𝟮𝟴, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

On May 27 to 28, 2026, the CNCH Management Office ventured into two of the host barangays of the critical habitat, Barangays Tagabinet and New Panggangan, to continue its Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) campaign.

Together with the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) and DENR-CENRO Puerto Princesa, the activity highlighted the significance of the CNCH, its establishment and management, and its governing laws. It included the Strategic Environmental Plan (SEP) Law (Republic Act No. 7611), the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act (Republic Act No. 9147), the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines (PD 705), and the Chainsaw Act of 2002 (Republic Act No. 9175). The Revised PCSD Administrative Order No. 05, Series of 2014, was also discussed.

Barangay officials, residents, and IP community members actively engaged in the exchange of thoughts and information regarding CNCH during sessions. Additionally, some participants expressed interest in contributing to efforts to mitigate risks and threats to the critical habitat's flora and fauna.

ENVICON26 🌿🍃 | Day 1

Through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office the Cleopatra’s Needle Critical Habitat Management Office (CNCHMO) actively participated in ENVICON26 by joining the event through an exhibit booth. The booth showcased the diverse wildlife found within and beyond the critical habitat, with special emphasis on endemic species.

To further enrich the experience, interactive games were prepared to engage participants and enhance their knowledge and appreciation of the Cleopatra’s Needle Critical Habitat in an enjoyable and meaningful way. 🤗🌱
