DILG Assistant Secretary evaluates Eco Kolek's circular economy model under EU-PH Green Economy Partnership

To assess and strengthen grassroots sustainability initiatives, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Assistant Secretary Lilian M. De Leon conducted an official site visit to Project Zacchaeus’ (PZC) Eco Kolek operations on April 13. The monitoring activity forms part of the ongoing implementation and evaluation of the EU-PH Green Economy Partnership Project in Puerto Princesa City.

To strengthen sustainable waste management practices and environmental responsibility, Eco Kolek, an initiative under Project Zacchaeus (PZC), conducted the Circular Economy Roadshow for 16 personnel of Puerto Princesa City Coliseum on April 21, 2026.

The three-hour program aimed to deepen the participants' understanding of the circular economy, specifically focusing on proper waste segregation in compliance with Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. The roadshow also highlighted the environmental impact of business-generated waste, particularly plastic pollution, and encouraged the adoption of practical solutions in daily operations.

In a unique effort to promote environmental awareness and sustainability, various stakeholders convened aboard the yacht M/Y Navorca, docked along the city's Baywalk, for the WWF Palawan Earth Day celebration on April 18, 2026.

The event brought together representatives from Local Government Units (LGUs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairpersons, YES-O, and personnel from Project Zacchaeus (PZC) and Eco Kolek. By hosting the gathering on a yacht, organizers aimed to immerse participants in the marine environment and underscore the critical importance of preserving local ocean ecosystems.

To improve community sanitation and reduce flood risks, environmental initiative Eco Kolek under Project Zacchaeus (PZC) partnered with local officials for a community clean-up drive in Purok Mahogany, Barangay Sicsican on March 27, 2026.

The three-hour activity mobilized a total of 75 participants, which included 25 Eco Warriors, 35 household members, 10 PZC staff, five barangay officials, and five representatives from Oplan Linis. Participants initially gathered at the Barangay Sicsican Gymnasium before proceeding to the designated areas.
