Gov. Bulut urges yApayao athletes to compete with discipline, pride

Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr. called on young athletes to give their best while carrying the colors of their schools and municipalities during the opening of the 2026 Apayao Provincial Athletic Meet on September 3 at the Apayao Grandstand in San Gregorio, Luna.

In his message to the delegations, Gov. Bulut told the athletes to compete with determination and sportsmanship, while respecting their opponents regardless of the outcome of their events.

He said the provincial meet gives young athletes experiences that go beyond competition. Training and competing, he added, teach discipline and respect while allowing athletes to build friendships with fellow yApayaos from other municipalities.

Gov. Bulut also called on the Department of Education and local government units to keep supporting athlete training, sports programs, and facilities in the province.

The Governor said the Provincial Government will continue providing support and incentives to athletes and coaches who represent Apayao in higher-level competitions. Earlier during the opening program, the province awarded ₱3.731 million in cash incentives to 300 CARAA and Palarong Pambansa medalists.

"The Provincial Government of Apayao will continue investing in sports and in young athletes with the talent and determination to go farther. Whether that promise is found in a large school or in one of our distant communities, it deserves to be discovered, trained, and given the chance to compete. I hope this Athletic Meet gives many of our young yApayaos that opportunity," the Governor said.

Cong. Bulut-Begtang to yApayao athletes: Build success ‘thread by thread’

Apayao Lone District Representative Eleanor C. Bulut-Begtang urged young athletes to value discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship as they compete in the 2026 Apayao Provincial Athletic Meet.

In her message for the opening of the meet, Cong. Bulut-Begtang drew from Apayao’s inabel weaving tradition to describe how an athlete develops through years of training, sacrifice, setbacks, and lessons.

“Like an inabel, greatness is created thread by thread. Every early morning or late night spent training, every sacrifice made, every failure overcome and every lesson learned becomes a thread in the fabric of an athlete’s journey,” she said.

She told the athletes that success in sports should go beyond the medals they bring home.

“A medal may shine for a moment but the character you develop through discipline, perseverance, sportsmanship and courage will stay with you for a lifetime,” Bulut-Begtang said.

She encouraged the athletes to compete hard, remain humble in victory, and accept defeat with grace, saying both winning and losing are part of their growth as athletes.

Cong. Bulut-Begtang also recognized the parents, teachers, coaches, and local government units supporting the athletes throughout their training and competitions.

“May you not tire in backing them up as they keep weaving their dreams into a bigger fabric called life,” she said.

She likewise thanked the Department of Education and the Provincial Government of Apayao for providing young yApayaos with opportunities to compete and develop their abilities through sports.
