The Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Agusan del Sur reminds all AgSurnons to take necessary precautions during periods of haze. Haze is a condition in which fine particles, smoke, and other pollutants remain suspended in the air, resulting in reduced visibility and potentially affecting respiratory health.

Exposure to haze may cause coughing, difficulty breathing, throat irritation, eye irritation, runny nose, and other respiratory symptoms. Individuals with asthma and other existing respiratory conditions, as well as children, older adults, and other vulnerable groups, may be more susceptible to the effects of polluted air.

To help minimize exposure and protect their health, AgSurnons are encouraged to:

โ€ข Limit prolonged outdoor activities, particularly heavy physical activities, when haze is present.
โ€ข Wear a well-fitting N95 when going outdoors, especially in areas with noticeable haze. If an N95 is not available, a properly worn surgical or regular face mask may provide some protection, although it offers less filtration against fine particles.
โ€ข Keep doors and windows closed as much as practical when outdoor air quality is poor, while ensuring adequate ventilation when conditions improve.
โ€ข Avoid smoke and other sources of air pollution, including cigarette smoke and open burning.
โ€ข Protect the eyes by avoiding unnecessary exposure and refraining from rubbing irritated eyes. Clean water or saline solution may be used to rinse the eyes when needed.
โ€ข Stay hydrated and allow adequate rest, particularly for those who need to spend time outdoors.
โ€ข Exercise caution when traveling, especially at night or when visibility is reduced. Use appropriate vehicle lights and avoid unnecessary travel in areas with poor visibility.
โ€ข Monitor official advisories and air-quality information and follow recommendations issued by health and environmental authorities.
โ€ข Seek medical attention promptly if experiencing persistent difficulty in breathing, chest discomfort, severe coughing, or worsening symptoms.

The Provincial Health Office encourages every AgSurnon to remain informed and take simple but appropriate measures to reduce exposure to haze. By practicing these precautions and looking out for vulnerable family members and community members, we can help protect respiratory health and promote a safer community during periods of poor air quality.

Stay informed. Stay protected. Breathe safer, AgSurnons.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) conducted an Adolescent Health Advocacy Activity at Lucena National High School on September 3, 2026, in partnership with the Democrito O. Plaza Memorial Hospital (DOPMH), Sustained Health Initiatives of the Philippines (SHIP), PCF Prosperidad, and the school administration headed by School Principal Raymond L. Maligro.

The activity provided students with essential health information and strengthened awareness of key adolescent health concerns. Discussions focused on HIV prevention and advocacy, including Mobile Voluntary Counseling and Testing, mental health awareness and promotion, and teenage pregnancy prevention, highlighting the importance of informed decision-making, early health-seeking behavior, and access to appropriate support and services.

The HIV advocacy sessions were facilitated by Ms. Vielmar Shane Gultiano and Mobile Voluntary Counseling and Testing (MVCT), School Nurse Ellen Evangelio for mental health advocacy, and Mr. Rico Layno of PCF Prosperidad for teenage pregnancy prevention. Through this collaborative initiative, partner agencies and the school community reinforced their shared commitment to equipping adolescents with accurate health knowledge, promoting responsible choices, and creating a supportive environment where young people can make informed decisions for their health and well-being.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Agusan del Sur has been recognized with a Plaque of Commendation by the Department of Healthโ€“Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Caraga for its outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to the institutionalization of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health (DRRM-H) System.

More than a recognition, this commendation reflects the collective commitment of the Provincial Health Office and its partners to ensuring that health systems remain prepared, responsive, coordinated, and resilient before, during, and after disasters.

Through the effective implementation of DRRM-H initiatives, the PHO continues to strengthen health preparedness and response mechanisms, promote risk-informed action, and empower communities to better withstand and recover from emergencies.

The commendation was presented last August 24, 2026, at Grand Palace Hotel, Butuan City, during the 1st DRRM-H Summit 2026, themed โ€œStrengthening Resiliency on Disaster Preparedness and Response through the Quad Cluster Approach.โ€

The Provincial Health Office of Agusan del Sur gratefully accepts this recognition as both an honor and a renewed commitment to continue championing health resilience, disaster preparedness, and responsive public health service for every Agsurnon.

Healthcare becomes more meaningful when it reaches people where they are, especially in communities where access to essential services can make a lasting difference.

On August 20, 2026, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Agusan del Sur conducted a Medical and Dental Mission in Barangay San Ignacio, Trento, bringing basic medical and dental services closer to residents and providing them with an opportunity to have their health needs addressed within their own community.

The activity was made possible through the partnership and shared efforts of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Trento, Municipal Health Office (MHO), Rural Health Unit (RHU), and Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of San Ignacio, working alongside the Provincial Health Office to bring essential healthcare services directly to the community.

More than a medical and dental outreach, the activity reflects what can be achieved when local health partners work together with a common purpose to make healthcare more accessible, responsive, and people-centered.

Through continued collaboration with LGUs and community partners, the PHO remains committed to reaching more communities across Agusan del Sur and ensuring that every Agsurnon has greater opportunities to access essential health services.

Together, we bring healthcare closer, strengthen communities, and make better health within reach of every Agsurnon.

Every family deserves the knowledge, support, and opportunity to make informed decisions that contribute to a healthier and more secure future. This Family Planning Month, we recognize the importance of responsible parenthood, informed reproductive health choices, and access to accurate health information for every individual and family.

On August 18, 2026, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Agusan del Sur, in partnership with the Municipal Health Office (MHO) of Santa Josefa, Democrito O. Plaza Memorial Hospital, and Sustained Health Initiatives of the Philippines (SHIP), conducted a Family Planning Month Celebration at the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Santa Josefa.

The activity highlighted key topics on Responsible Parenthood, Reproductive Health, and HIV Awareness, providing participants with essential information to help them make informed and responsible decisions concerning their health, relationships, and family life.

Through these continuing health education initiatives, the PHO and its partners strengthen efforts to bring reliable health information and services closer to communities. By creating spaces where individuals can learn, ask questions, and better understand their reproductive health, we help empower families to make choices that support their well-being and future.

Family planning is about more than planning pregnanciesโ€”it is about planning for healthier families, responsible parenthood, and better futures.

The Provincial Health Office remains committed to working with its local health partners in empowering every Agsurnon with the knowledge and support needed to make informed choices and build healthy individuals, healthy families, and healthier communities.

As the Philippines observes National Lung Month this August, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Agusan del Sur continues to promote awareness, early detection, and preventive action against tuberculosis (TB) and other respiratory diseases.

Observed every August by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 1761, series of 1978, National Lung Month serves as an important reminder of our collective responsibility to protect lung health and prevent respiratory illnesses.

While August 19 was observed as National TB Day in the Philippines, the call to prevent and control tuberculosis extends beyond a single day. It is a continuing commitment to protect individuals, families, and communities throughout Agusan del Sur.

In support of this advocacy, the Provincial Health Office, together with its partners, conducted a TB awareness and screening activity that brought essential services closer to the community. The activity provided free chest X-ray screening through the Alay Buhay Mobile X-ray Van, with support from the Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP).

Beyond providing services, the activity also served as an avenue to strengthen TB advocacy and health education, reminding every Agsurnon that early detection plays an important role in preventing the spread of TB and ensuring that those who may need further assessment and treatment are identified promptly.

TB is preventable and curable. By knowing the signs, getting screened when appropriate, and completing treatment when diagnosed, we can take meaningful steps toward protecting not only our own health but also the health of those around us.

The fight against TB does not end with National TB Day. It continues with every person who chooses to be informed, every community that chooses to act, and every partner who works together to bring healthcare closer to the people.

Together, let us continue working toward a healthier and TB-free Agusan del Sur, where every Agsurnon is empowered to breathe better, live healthier, and thrive.
