Division-Wide Orientation on Phil-IRI and RMA: Empowering Grades 4-12 Educators for Enhanced Learning
Yesterday, July 18, 2025, a representative for Key Stages 2, 3, and 4 from every school across the Division of Special Geographic Area gathered at Marah's Function Hall in Pikit, Cotabato for a comprehensive orientation on the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) and Rapid Math Assessment (RMA). The event, graced by Dr. Abdulsamad M. Maisalat, CID Chief, aimed to equip teachers with the skills and knowledge necessary to accurately assess the reading and mathematical abilities of students in Grades 4-12.
The orientation provided a robust and multifaceted approach to assessment. Alvin B. Sunsay, Division TLE Coordinator, expertly laid the groundwork with a comprehensive introduction to the Phil-IRI. Building on this foundation, Musanip S. Adzal, EdD, meticulously guided participants through the step-by-step process of administering the Phil-IRI. His presentation extended to practical applications, including conducting the Group Screening Test and identifying common reading miscues. Crucially, the session also delved into interpreting the reading levels revealed by the assessment.
Shifting focus to mathematics, Rayhana Pendi-Ali, Division English, LAC and Reading Coordinator, introduced the RMA, offering a complementary tool for evaluating students' mathematical proficiency. Abdul Alilaya, Division Senior High School Coordinator, further enhanced the understanding of the program by focusing on the application of the Group Screening Test specifically for Grade 11 students.
The success of the orientation was a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Division Technical Working Group (DTWG). Mayla A. Butuan (Education Program Supervisor), Edon M. Antog (Division Sports Coordinator), Rhoeda Madato (Division MAPEH Designate), and Junodin Solaiman (Division SBM Focal), played instrumental roles in ensuring a smooth and productive event. Their dedication contributed significantly to the overall effectiveness of the training.
This division-wide initiative underscores a commitment to enhancing the quality of education by providing teachers with the necessary tools to accurately assess student learning and tailor instruction accordingly. The comprehensive orientation on Phil-IRI and RMA empowers educators to better support the academic growth of their students, ultimately contributing to a more effective and enriching learning experience for all.
