TRIMESTRAL SYSTEM GOES INTO EFFECT FOR SY 2026-2027

The Department of Education (DepEd) will implement a trimestral system for basic education units for school year 2026-2027, veering away from the previous four-quarter structure in the previous years.

A notable addition in the system is the introduction of "end-of-term blocks," which will be allotted for non-teaching activities. Meanwhile, observances will now be integrated into regular lessons to save on school days.

ALMOST ZERO!

EDCOM 2 reports that only 0.4% of senior high school students are at least proficient—roughly 4 out of every 1,000 learners who can demonstrate the skills expected after more than a decade in school.

The commission explains that, at this level, “proficiency” refers to higher-order abilities such as problem-solving, managing and communicating information, and analyzing and evaluating data to form ideas or solutions.
