The Verbum Dei Missionary Family is a Catholic missionary community dedicated to prayer and ministry Jaime Bonet in the diocese of Mallorca (Spain).

"Verbum Dei" is composed of two Latin words which means "Word of God". The Verbum Dei Missionary Family (VDMFa) is a Catholic missionary community composed of consecrated men, women, couples and lay disciples at the service of the Word of God, to which belong all the faithful sharing in the same Verbum Dei spirituality and mission. It brings together individuals and groups of every state of life,

age, culture and social condition, and its purpose is living and spreading the Kingdom of God. With the same motto of the first disciples of Jesus: "We shall dedicate ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word", the VDMFa aims to live and proclaim the Kingdom of God through prayer, the testimony of life, and the ministry of the Word, forming apostles of Christ and generating evangelizing communities. Gospel: Matthew 16:21-27

You are thinking not as God does, but as people do

The Gospel begins with Jesus foretelling his own suffering and death. When Peter objects, Jesus rebukes him: 'Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle. You are not thinking as God does, but as people do.”

This reminds us that our own plans and desires can sometimes be contrary to God’s will. When we prioritize convenience or control, we risk taking God's place. However, Jesus shows us the way of openness and obedience to the Father. True discipleship means surrendering our will and allowing God to lead us.

Jesus, grant us the grace to remain open to the Father’s will. Teach us to surrender our own plans and follow you with trust and obedience. Amen.

Memorial of the Passion of St. John the Baptist
Gospel: Mark 6:17-29

He became very disturbed whenever he heard him

The Gospel recounts the beheading of John the Baptist. He courageously spoke out against King Herod’s unlawful marriage, standing firm as an upright and holy man — despite the fact that Herod was deeply disturbed by his words.

John’s example challenges us to confront injustice and inhumanity in our society with courage. Despite facing opposition, we are called upon to use our voice to embody Christ’s truth, rather than remaining silent. The Gospel invites us to live a life rooted in justice and integrity.

Lord, may John’s example inspire us to never fear speaking the truth. Grant us the light and guidance of the Holy Spirit so that our words may be grounded in faith, justice, mercy and love. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 25:1-13

Stay awake, for you do not know the day nor the hour

The parable of the ten bridesmaids tells the story of ten women who bring their lamps to meet the bridegroom. Five of them did not take extra oil with them, while the other five did. Ultimately, those who did not bring any oil were unable to join the wedding feast.

Today's Gospel speaks about how we should nurture our relationship with God. Are we as prepared as the wise bridesmaids, or as negligent as the foolish ones? Jesus tells us that we alone are responsible for nurturing our spiritual life – no one else can do it for us.

Jesus, help us to remain faithful to you. Grant us the perseverance, openness and courage to remain steadfast so that we may continue to believe in and hope for the coming of your kingdom. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 24: 42-51

The Lord will entrust him with everything he has

Today’s Gospel invites us to stay awake because the Lord will come at a time we least expect. How do we stay awake? Jesus tells us to continue doing the work until the master arrives at the house.

In response to God’s invitation to stay awake, Jesus encourages us to reflect on how we live our daily moments. Do we sense God’s presence, especially in times of uncertainty? Are we mindful of how God’s word leads and guides us to be faithful in our relationship with Christ? If we are faithful, the Lord will entrust us with all that He has, and we will experience the generosity of His love, faithfulness, and mercy.

Father, help us to continue living our faith with vigilance as we wait for you with joyful anticipation. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 23:27-32

Whitewashed tombs and dead bodies

In the Gospel, Jesus once again addresses the scribes and Pharisees. He calls them 'whitewashed tombs filled with dead bodies'. Today, he strongly invites us to reflect on our own spiritual lives.

Have we become like the scribes and the Pharisees, who focus on external appearances rather than the state of our hearts? What is in our hearts right now? As we try to find answers within our hearts, we ask for Jesus' presence to be with us.

Jesus, we pray that we may live out our faith with humility and sincerity, and with a heart that loves as the Father does. Grant us the grace to imitate your love so that we may also love and touch the lives of those around us. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 23:23-26

Purify the inside first, then the outside, too, will be purified

In the Gospel today, Jesus calls out the Scribes and Pharisees hypocrites. He tells them that justice, mercy and faith are more important than 'tithing'. He calls them “blind”.

Today, Jesus asks us, “What are the most important things in our lives right now, aside from external things?” Have we also been blinded by what we can see? What do we feed our hearts with? Jesus calls on us not to be blind, but to examine our hearts first, so that the outside will be purified.

Jesus, help us to be mindful of what we see, hear, feel, think and do every day. Send us the Holy Spirit so that we may faithfully follow you and your teachings. Amen.

Gospel: John 1:45-51

I saw you under the fig tree but you will see greater things than that

Today's Gospel reveals that Jesus knows and sees everything about our lives. He met Nathanael when Philip invited him to come and see Jesus.

Jesus knows our past, present and future. Even when we are unaware of it, he accompanies us on our life's journey and our journey of faith. In our everyday lives, he knows where we are and what our situations are. Even when we cannot see, God sees farther ahead than our eyes can.

Just as Jesus told Nathanael, 'You will see greater things than that', let us pray for open eyes and trusting hearts, so that we may believe in and understand God's promises in our lives. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 16:13-20

You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church

Today’s Gospel shows us Jesus entrusting Peter with a particular mission in the Church. We are also members of the Church, and each of us has a role to play. Jesus calls us to participate in building His Church through the mission entrusted to us. We are invited to work in communion with one another, especially in caring for those who are vulnerable and in need. We are called to follow Jesus and share the Good News and the love of God with the world.

It is our responsibility to care for one another and help others come closer to God. Like Peter, we are invited to proclaim our faith and serve the Church according to the gifts God has given us. May we build a Church centered on Christ, strengthened by prayer, communion, and our faithful response to His call.

Lord, we pray for the leaders and ministers of your Church. May they faithfully serve your people and be witnesses of your love. Give us also the courage and humility to serve others with sincerity and generosity. Help us to remain united with you and with one another as we build your Church. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 23:1-12

For whoever makes himself great shall be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be made great

Today we are invited to be humble and to put ourselves at the service of others. In moments of abundance and when we achieve our goals, we are reminded that our success is not only the result of our own efforts. God is the one who has given us our gifts and talents, and we are instruments of His goodness. Everything we have and everything we are is a gift that comes from Him. All things are made possible through His love and grace. Humility means recognizing that we depend on God and using what He has given us to serve others rather than seeking recognition for ourselves.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we thank you for all the blessings we receive each day. Help us recognize every blessing as a gift from You, and help us to remain humble in all that we do. Teach us to put others before ourselves and to serve with love, always giving glory to you. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 22:34-40

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind

The first and most important of the commandments is to love God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind. In Jesus’ teaching, this commandment sums up all the others. Our love for others flows from our love for God. It all starts with God. His love for us began with creation, and He created us in His image and likeness.

To love God means to devote our lives to Him, making Him our priority above all else. We can grow in our love for God by getting to know Him through prayer and dialogue. As we appreciate the gifts and blessings we have received, we become more aware of His love for us. This love is present not only in good times, but in difficult and challenging times too. The more we recognize how much God loves us, the more we are able to love him with all our heart, soul and mind, and share that love with others.

Lord, thank you for your immense love. Your love for us is constant even when we stumble and fall. Teach us to love you above all and to let your love flow through us to others. Amen.
