AI 501: Leading an AI-Ready Government is a two-day executive learning program designed for senior Philippine government officials leading responsible AI adoption in their agencies.

The course introduces participants to practical applications of AI in government, the opportunities and risks associated with its adoption, and the governance mechanisms necessary to ensure AI is deployed responsibly, ethically, and in the public interest.

Through facilitated dialogues, peer learning, case-based exercises, and the application of assessment tools, participants will assess their agencies’ AI readiness, examine key policy and governance considerations, and translate readiness gaps into concrete leadership actions. The program empowers government executives to make informed, accountable, and public value-driven decisions on AI adoption.

DEPDev Secretary and Social Development Committee (SDC) Chair Arsenio M. Balisacan convened members of the SDC on September 3, 2026, at the DEPDev Central Office in Mandaluyong City to discuss measures addressing learning continuity, social protection, and access to higher education.

Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara presented to the SDC a proposed Executive Order updating rules on class and work suspensions in educational institutions. The measure seeks to balance learner safety with learning continuity by enabling more responsive decisions based on the severity of hazards and actual conditions on the ground.

The Committee also discussed DEPDev’s Social Protection Floor Prioritization Matrix, a decision-support tool for directing limited government resources toward programs that can effectively reach vulnerable groups, remain responsive during crises, and deliver sustainable social protection across the life cycle.

𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐍𝐀𝐍: Ayon sa Consumer Price Index (CPI) report ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) para sa Agosto 2026 na inilabas nitong Biyernes (Setyembre 4), bumaba ang food inflation sa 4.6 percent mula 5.2 percent noong Hulyo, na nakatulong sa pagbagal ng headline inflation noong Agosto.

Upang mas maibsan ang epekto ng pagtaas ng presyo at mapanatiling sapat ang food supply sa bansa, patuloy na isinasagawa ng pamahalaan ang mga hakbang tulad ng:

Pagpapatuloy ng targeted support para sa vulnerable sectors sa ilalim ng UPLIFT, kabilang ang mas malawak na access sa abot-kayang pagkain sa KADIWA outlets at pamamahagi ng libreng bigas sa ilalim ng “Bawat Bayan Makikinabang” Program.

Pagpapatuloy ng fuel subsidy na PHP12 kada litro para sa PUV drivers at operators hanggang Setyembre, na susuriin buwan-buwan.

Pagpapanatili ng agricultural production sa gitna ng El Niño sa pamamagitan ng irrigation support, input assistance, inventory monitoring, at napapanahong market interventions.

The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev), as Secretariat of the National Innovation Council (NIC), concluded the 2026 Presidential Filipinnovation Awards on September 3 in Ortigas City, recognizing outstanding Filipino innovators, institutions, and organizations whose solutions contribute to national development and improve the lives of Filipinos.

The awarding ceremony underscored the role of innovation in addressing development challenges, creating opportunities, and strengthening the country’s competitiveness. Through the Presidential Filipinnovation Awards, DEPDev and the NIC continue to foster a culture of innovation and support Filipino innovators in transforming promising ideas into solutions with meaningful and lasting impact.

Entries were evaluated based on innovativeness, sustainability, scalability and marketability, and potential impact and relevance.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., who is also the chairperson of the NIC, personally conferred the awards through a medallion and a plaque.

The awardees also received PHP 3.5 Million worth of cash grants and post-competition support, including training and mentoring, participation in local and international platforms, and opportunities to connect with potential investors, clients, and business partners.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: Following the release of the August 2026 Inflation Report by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) today, DEPDev Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan emphasized the need to strengthen the foundations of price stability by improving food security, enhancing logistics efficiency, and providing targeted support to vulnerable sectors.

The nation’s chief economist stressed that these measures are not merely short-term responses, but investments that will help build a more resilient economy capable of withstanding future disruptions.

𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐍𝐀𝐍: Nanatiling matatag ang inflation ng bansa sa 6.1 percent nitong Agosto, mula sa naitalang 6.2 percent noong Hulyo. Katumbas nito ang 5.2 percent average inflation mula Enero hanggang Hulyo, ayon sa Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) ngayong araw, September 4.

Nakatulong sa pagpapanatiling matatag ng inflation ang mas mababang food inflation, na bumaba sa 4.6 percent mula sa 5.2 percent noong Hulyo. Bumagal din ang pagtaas ng presyo ng tubig, kuryente, gasolina, at iba pang langis sa 7.9 percent, mula sa 8.2 percent noong Hulyo.

Ayon kay DEPDev Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan, kabilang sa mga prayoridad ng pamahalaan upang mapanatiling mababa ang inflation ang pagpapalakas ng seguridad sa pagkain, pagpapabilis ng logistics, at pagbibigay ng proteksyon sa mga sektor na pinakaapektado ng pagtaas ng presyo ng mga bilihin.
