Official Statement of the Original Members of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino - Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban)

We, the original members of *Partido Demokratiko Pilipino - Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban),* strongly denounce the baseless and misleading claims made by the faction that unlawfully usurped our party’s name and identity.

We are the legitimate PDP Laban. Our party was founded by the late Senate President Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr., a statesman who fought for democracy, good governance, and the rights of the Filipino people. Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III*, as our National Chairman, upholds this legacy and continues to fight for our principles. The real PDP Laban has always been about values, not personalities.

The leadership issue is still pending before the Supreme Court. The matter of PDP Laban’s rightful leadership remains under judicial review, and any pronouncement from the faction that illegitimately seized control of our party does not and should not preempt the Supreme Court’s final decision. We call on all parties to respect due process and avoid spreading misinformation.

Their own hypocrisy exposes their true nature. In April 2024, this faction passed a resolution removing the word “LABAN” from their name. If they no longer identify with the party’s full name and legacy, why do they continue to use it when convenient? This inconsistency reflects their style of governance—one driven by opportunism rather than principle.

Furthermore, their claim that Senator Koko Pimentel has "no legal or moral right" to use the PDP Laban name is absurd. Senator Koko Pimentel is the son of our party’s founder and has dedicated his career to upholding its core values. The same cannot be said for those who only joined PDP Laban as a matter of political convenience, only to later betray its principles.

Finally, we categorically reject their attempts to mislead the Filipino people into believing that their faction speaks for the entire party. PDP Laban was founded to protect democracy and serve the people—not to be a political tool for personal gain.

We stand firm in our commitment to uphold the true PDP Laban’s values, fight for genuine democracy, and ensure that our party is led by those who respect its history, principles, and purpose.

Sa paggunita ng ika 43 Taon ng Pagkakatatag ng Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP)... Ating inaalala ang mga Nagtatag at mga magigiting na Lider mula sa Luzon, Bisaya at Mindanao.

Itinayo ang Partido sa pamumuno ni Ka Nene Pimentel katuwang ang ibang Oposisyon at Aktibista na tutol sa Diktadurya Marcos at Totalitaryanismo. Isang Pambansang Kapulungan ang isinagawa noong Pebrero 5-6, 1982 sa Club Filipino Lungsod ng Cebu Ito ay nilahukan ng mga kinatawan mula sa ibat-ibang sektor Publiko, Kabataan, Propesyonal, Kababaihan, Maralitang Tagalungsod, Magsasaka at Katutubo. Naninindigan at nagsusulong ng Mapayapa at Demokratkong Paraan ng Pagkilos Politika tungo sa Panlipunang Pagbabago.

Ang batayang Prinsipyo ay Pananampalataya sa Poong Lumikha, Makatao, Mulat na Pagkamakabayan, Demokratiko Sosyalismo at Pakikilahok. Nakilahok sa Pambansa at Lokal na Halalan at nagsulong ng mga panukalang batas at polisiya para sa Mabuting Pamamahala, Pagtatanggol sa Karapatang Pantao, Pagkakapantay-pantay at Pangangalaga sa Likas Yaman. Sa gitna ng nagbabagong sistema sa politika, patuloy na naniniwala sa Pakikilahok at Pagtatanggol ng Sibil at Politikal na Karapatan tungo sa Matatag, Maunlad at Mapayapang Pilipinas!

PDP Laban Denounces Charter Change Shenanigans:
“Enough Political Masochism”

The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban) today unleashed a fiery salvo against the alleged manipulation and vote-buying plaguing the charter change campaign, declaring, "Enough is enough! We won't be hoodwinked again!"

"PDP Laban will not tolerate this blatant attempt to bypass the bicameral system and silence the Senate's voice," said Atty. Lutgardo Barbo, Vice Chairman of PDP Laban. "This reeking stench of corruption is not just about charter change; it's about protecting the very lifeblood of our democracy – transparency, accountability, and the equal voice of every Filipino."

PDP Laban demands nothing less than a thorough investigation from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and urges Filipinos to rise above the din of manipulation. "Let us not drown out the voices of reason and accountability," Barbo implored. "We call on all Filipinos to reject this toxic brew of political sleaze and defend the integrity of our Constitution. PDP Laban stands resolute in its commitment to transparency and inclusivity in any future discussions regarding the Constitution. We will not be silent, and we will not be swayed by empty promises and cheap bribes."

Barbo's scathing rebuke echoes PDP Laban's outrage at reports of mayors allegedly bribed with P100 per signature for a people's initiative aimed at weakening the Senate's role in the Constitution's revision. This brazen disregard for due process, Barbo asserts, exposes a desperate ploy to erode the bicameral system, a crucial safeguard against hasty and ill-conceived alterations to the nation's Constitution.

"Haven't we endured enough political masochism?" Barbo demanded. "Have we forgotten the bitter taste of being deceived by power-hungry, self-serving leaders? We refuse to be their pawns in this twisted game. The Filipino people deserve better!"
