English Language Proficiency (ELP) is a key aviation safety requirement.
Mandated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), it ensures that pilots and air traffic controllers communicate with clarity, brevity, and accuracy. ELP helps prevent dangerous miscommunications that can lead to critical incidents, particularly during emergencies in international airspace.
This week, aviation professionals from across Southeast Asia are gathering at the CATC to strengthen the implementation of these standards. The workshop aims to equip aviation language assessors with the knowledge, skills, and standardized procedures needed to conduct and rate ICAO-compliant ELP tests, ensuring fairness, reliability, and operational safety.
